The VIN # tells all, a 107 024 is a 450SLC, 107 026 is a 500SLC, no exceptions.

So it's not a 500, it's a 450.

It is still an SLC and a nice looking one. What is it worth?

Austin,
Any person who is trying to misrepresent that car as a 500slc is a real scumbag. You don't want to but a vintage MB from a dishonest seller. Pictures are just as deceiving as the seller. That pm I sent you outlining common ailments on these cars is accurate and be assured that all those systems I mention will need attention if they weren't addressed by previous owners. You can easily spend more on parts and labor than than the car is worth.

SLC's don't retail very high for some reason. Even well maintained ones that are in excellent condition, low mileage(under 100k), only bring about $7500.

This seller has already tipped us off that he's a scumbag - Run like hell. I see alot of SLC's on Ebay that look well taken care of and have had alot of the prelimary work taken care. Be VERY carefull and ask for lot's of documentation to back up the owner's claims of repairs and mileage. Fraud on these vintage MB's is rampant.

I spoke to him & he says the title says 500SLC....he is gonna check the title for the vin,...if it's 024 or 026.

He was asking what it would be worth if it was not a 500 but a 450.

Please keep in mind that I really like coupes!

It doesn't matter what the title says, it's a 450. You just can't get around that with a 107 024 stamped on the frame. From what the pictures show, it's a needy #4 car with a poor quality repaint tarted up with some wood, a trunk badge and a spoiler. It comes with a seller who is either dishonest or knows nothing about the car. Neither bodes well for its provenance.

I think the market would value this car in the 2500-3000 range on a good day and assuming no obvious mechanical or roadworthiness issues. Remember, there's almost no upside on these cars. If you really want one, find a good one with a real history and buy it right.

Found this car in the yards today
wdb10702612000416 There were two SLC's in the yard, but they were stripped pretty much- except for the euro tri-y manifolds and downpipes... which are now in my shed.

in late 77 they made the 450slc 5.0 this was the car they went to rallys with.it was named this way because the engine was still a test or special engine.[remember the 450sel 6.9] in 1980 when the 5.0 engine became production the car was badged 500slc.this came along with one other major improvement THE FOUR SPEED TRANSMISSION.obviously this was a better car but existed only for one more year[1981]before the 500sec became the flagship and no more slc's.i went to germany and bought[i should say persuaded the owner of a restaurant in basel] a 1978 450slc 5.0.this was a dream of mine since the start of production.i got to drive it on the german autobahns and often saw top speed of 184mph[actually a shade shy of 300kph]this happened in 1982.those were the days.oh yes 1 more thing all the 500slc's had abs brakes[1980 was first year].
