Removing gaugecluster from 91 500 sl ?? how to's

I'm taking the gauge cluster out ONLY to remove the clear lense and put a burlwood trim piece on the inside. I think their directions refer to putting the trim piece OVER top of the plastic lense, but that seems tacky!! because if you lean to the right/left then the gauges are going to look all funny--so I'd rather put it on the INside of the gauge cluster. Tips on where to start please?

You need to do a search on gauge cluster on this site. There are numerous how to's and don't do's out there. You also need two special hook tools to pull it out or you will need to pull down the under dash panel and push the cluster out. Make sure your steering wheel is all the way out and the steering column is all the way down to give enough room to remove it after unplugging the connectors on the back.

My clear lense was glued to the custer body. I tried to remove it and broke it. I had to then buy a new cluster body. This may stop you from putting the burl stuff in there. Some years the lense comes off and some they don't. You can't tell until you take it out.
