The passenger window in my 1990 500SL is now inoperable via the console switch. Over the last year, it seemed to operate very slowly, compared with the speed of the driver's window, but it DID operate. Now that we're in soft-top season, it WILL go up and down when the top is raised or lowered......but, only in conjunction with engaging the top mechanism, with one exception......if I stop the top-down cycle just short of the windows being raised to their full up position.....I CAN use the console switch for the window, but regardless of which way I operate the switch (up or down position), the window will only raise..........curious, but seems related to the integration of the windows and the roll-bar into the top mechanism's cycle........Any thoughts?????

I had two problems with my windows on my 92 500sl.
the first was similar to yours. the console switch
wouldn't operate the window but all worked well with
the softtop control. It also worked fine with the
keylock. I didn't try the console switch with any variations of the softtop. problem turned out
to be console switch/loose connection. can't remember
which.

the 2nd problem was with the drivers window not operating
with the console switch. turned out to be a bad fuse.

good news is that your window motor and relay are working.
hopefully its something small

Troubleshooting input to control module

My schematic shows pin 1 of the console switch should be connected to ground. Pressing the switch to lower the window connects pin 1 with pin 4 of the switch; pressing the switch to raise connects pin 1 with pin 3. Pin 4 of the switch is wired to pin 8 of connector "Y" on the control module, and pin 3 is wired to pin 7 of the connector.

So you can remove the switch and verify it alone, or you can probe the connector of the control module and check the operation of the switch in conjunction with its associated wiring.

Come to think of it, might be a good idea to pull the connector on the control module. Mine showed a little bit of corrosion. Perhaps yours has some that is resulting in a dodgy contact.
