Wind Sceen Repaired
OK. Guys, Phil Here. I have rebuilt my WindScreen for my 1992 500SL and it cost me a total of Ten Dollars! I think it came out fantastic.
I will walk you through what and how I accomplished this and hope my pictures will come along with this Post. 1 Ripped out old torn Screen and rubber Spline. 2 Cleaned ,sanded and refinished old WindScreen Frame 3 Located a very fine Nylon Mesh 20/20 Ga. [ similar to Window Screening the original material is not available to purchase as a Item. 4 Located a Rubber, Plastic Spline [non striated] 140 Ga. 5 Now very carefully lay screening on to Frame. 6 Insert spline using a Nylon roller wheel [not metal] Take your time, It helps to have a second set of hands to help you do this, The round corners are a Bear to do but take you time and it will come out perfect. I made a little tool out of aluminum to get the Spline into one section of the frame, The frame does not come apart so the roller wheel does not work in that area. 7 Make sure no wrinkles are in the screen. 8 Trim excess Screen material with a sharp Xacto knife. 9 Re-Install little plastic U shape pieces to the Hinge area of the Wind frame, screen has to be cut out for this! 10 Spray touch-up complete frame unit 11 The secret now is to lay a second application of 140 non-striated spline, Lay it in the same groove as the first Spline for a finished look. Total time on this project was 4 Hours, I hope it works half as good as the 450.00 Original version claims it would, It sure looks great. 1992 Sweet 500SL I Hope I Have Been Some Help, Phil Justice |
