Exclamation Wow , Now I am lost in connecting these Euros

Feeling pretty smug as I got the euros cleaned up , reflective bowls cleaned and looking good, fabricated a refelctor hood our of some alunimum and the end of a bud beer can, sweet results
figured remove the old frog eyes, looking for the wires , I hope to find brown yellow grey white and green /red on a 4 plug system.
What I find is a 6 plug connector and a 4 plug connector. Granted my car is a 72 but and this is original wiring but this is what I find

on the 6 plug
green/white ( 2 wires of the smae into one plug)
white
brown
yellow
grey/red
black/green

the 4 plug has
green/yellow
black
black

I do have fogs on this and the 4 plug must be the jumper to them

however on the euros , I have a 4 plug connector and only one wire in that, and of course the 6 plug

I am lost
any electrical engineers out there?

I don't have an exact wiring diagram for your car (I do have a 74 electrical manual), but the Euro plug wiring I sent should be accurate.

The reason you have only one pin on the 4-position connector is that the Euro front headlight setup probably had ONLY a 1-filament bulb, for the turn signal itself. In order to do both turn AND marker (like you would see on a US bumpered turn signal), you would need to jumper over the taillight power, and install another pin (and maybe another for a ground). Those pins are available at the dealer. Soldering is involved in installing the wire into the pins.

I didn't bother with any of the colors, etc when I did mine, I just buzzed it out with a voltmeter and powered the Euro headlight with a 12 volt power supply and connected things up until it worked to my liking.

Ron, from what I understand from Wodnek during his visit to Dallas last week, you'll need to convert to a 6 pin connector that you can find on rear lights.

He has rewired a couple of these so you may want to reach to him and get some details.

thanks , yes I saw his post and am doing some tracing with a volt meter as suggested by strife . My 72 has a 6 plug plus a four plug just like the connections on the Euros I got from you, its just that the wires dont jive. I realized after I posted that the fogs dont come into play here, and the connections I have to figure out is the one to the side marker ( on when lights are on) and the front marker/turn signals, on when lights are on , and blink when activated. So more study
On a good note, they cleaned up beautifully and look perfect on the car, I could not help to just pop one in place. My creation of a reflector hood out of the beer can , rivets and aluminum was pretty neat, I gotta admit. sprayed it black with the high temp stuff..

I would like to see how you did the light shield, that's a pretty tricky piece of work. It really is delicate, which is why I painted the heck out of mine with caliper paint (really hi-temp).

Going back to the wiring, I hacked my first two sets with Molex connectors (the Nylon stands for the "Real" connectors were broken on both sets), but on my "new" spare set I vowed to do this right, so I got new 6-pin connectors. Those connectors are not unique to Euros, they are used all over the place in MB's of that era - so if you have access to a boneyard, you can get the shells AND PINS (the pins are expensive at the dealer).

I have a lot of connectors in my private boneyard so I should be good . I plan to do the tracing tonight.
How I did the light shield. The legs were created out of sheet aluminum. One peice that I actually molded by putting it on top of the good one ( I should have made the little feet bigger) . In the middle I left a flat spot to attach to the actual shield via a small (tiny) rivet.
I fabricated the "shield" from the bottom of a can ( bud in this case ) I cut off the bottom and once again used the good shield as a "mold" worked the aluminum into the proper shape. This took some doing as I first had to "flatten" the bottom and then remold it but it worked. I went through several cans as experiments. Then I fastened the legs ( one piece) to the shield via the rivet. Sprayed the high temp black paint and it looks great and works well too - long term - who knows. I will snap a pic and post sometime soon.
Strife , i actually got the idea by looking at the picture of your reflective bowls and the reflector on that one. the legs spanned the shield, the piece I was strugglling with - trying to make the thing out of one piece is impossible ( for me anyhow) !

Turn signals not involved with headlights.

The Euros have an additional connector (you'll only use 5 of the 6 pins) for "city lights," i.e. parking lights, as Euro models don't have them in conjunction with turn signals as do USA models.

To get "city lights" you'll have to move wire from turn signal to headlights or maybe splice into it and have both or maybe just ignore your city lights alltogether.

I do like the city lights and I use them as daytime running lights (I have them wired to come on with ignition). Daytime running lights are used now on a lot of new cars (And of course have been used in Canada for a while). I replaced the single-wire side markers with double filament bulbs and new sockets. I had a hard time finding suitable sockets on my first two sets and I had to really kludge this socket, but on my new set I found Chrysler sockets with flanges that adapted in very well. I like that people can see that you are turning from the side of the car.

On the 380, this is pretty simple; I was worried about doing this on the 560 because of the "convenience" wiring that has sensors if your bulb goes out. These can be damaged ($$$) if too much power is drawn from them (like, for example, a second filament). So, not wanting to take any chances, I used an additional relay.
