valve cover color
On my 86 300SL I just got I wanted to detail the engine. It's an in line six with a long valve cover. I was thinking of having it powder coated as opposed to chromed for money reasons or should I just paint it? Now it's kind of a satin black but not real smooth. If I powder coat it I was thinking silver or should I just have it polished after removing the old paint? I'm going to have the air cleaner cover powder coated black. Any suggestions will be appreciated.Greg.

If the valve cover has lots if grooves, 95% of the polishing work will be in 5% of the area.
On my SL ( M104 st 6 ) I plan on painting it body color ( 702 Smoke Silver ) with a matt clear coat. Having a rough surface too shiny looks bad. |

The casting of the valve covers in that time period was not particularly smooth and the paint typically hides a lot of the blemishes from the factory. Powder fills in a lot of the imperfections.
