Trunk won't open

Ok, went to the store over the weekend in the 88SL the trunk worked fine. Put some packages in there and head for home. Now, the trunk wont open. The locking system seems to be working fine on the doors. The problem is the trunk button will push in however it will not unlock. Any suggestions? Is there another way to get into the trunk? Normally you hear the release engage but now nothing happens. You can push the lock but its not releasing. Your help is greatly appreciated.
