why are the 17" rims for the 1998-1999 SL so unpopular?

I just bought the 1999 17" factory SL rims. The flower looking kind. Or the 5 star design but thick blocks? Nobody seems to want to keep these rims on their car...is there a reason why nobody likes these rims?

Never heard that one. I seen so many SL owners changing from 16" to 17" 5 spokes. I put 17" AMG 5 spoke rims on my SL. I now receive many compliments even more than before. Also I think the 17" wheels with 245/45/17 keep the ride better and the intigrity of the speedodmeter, etc. the same. My HO.

Bruce the rims you have are beatiful. I tried installing them on my car but they would hit the front calipers so I couldn't. The 5 spoke ones I am talking about look like a flower more then a star. They have thicker blocks. They usually are on the 1998 and 1999 non AMG SL's. The dealer doesnt sell them anymore, anyone who has them seems to want to get rid of them so I am feeling bad about buying them now and scared I wont be able to sell them.

I really like that style; I've just bought a set on ebay. My car presently has the five spoke wheels in my signature; I am going to use my new five hole wheels as a spare set. I will put winter tyres on them when the time comes. Here is a pic of the new ones:

I think I am going to stay with these ones. Its frustrating finding rims that will fit this car. This is my 4th set in 3 months. How much did you pay for yours on e-bay. The dealer lists them for 525 each CDN.

Ha! Small world. Sadly I'm driving my desk for now. I paid GBP330 for my used wheels off ebay. That is about US$500. This seems to be the going rate, there have been a few sets on offer lately. They came without tyres. I'll spend another GBP140 having them refurbished (although they are in pretty good condition as it is). The total is still less than half what the dealer charges for new ones.

I put them on today and surprisingly I am happy. I actually like them better then the monoblocks I put on. On the way back from the tire shop I already got two compliments on my rims

Nice rims JJ.

Folks, what is the wheel offset on a 1991 R129?

I've been offered a mint set of Carlsson's with tires. Size, 35mm, 5 x 112. If I recall correctly the R129's have a lower offset (25mm?).

I used to know but I've forgotten. TIA.
