OM603 starter motor
I have a '87 W124 300d (6 cylinder, non-turbo) OM603.
Recently this car had a starter motor failure. I managed to purchase a second hand one, but I wish to repair the old one so I have a spare. The starter motor has a planetary gear set with the outer being plastic gears (I presume Bosch believed the plastic would last a lot longer than 22 years) which in this case, lost several teeth and the plastic carrier for the intermediate gears is also cracked. Can anyone advise where I can obtain this gear set? Thanks, Tony

Bosch Starter Planetary Gearset
O.K. the reply underneath this one (#3) has some likely Bosch sources.
('Hope they're within 20 miles of you!) I know you'll need the Bosch Part Number for the starter,it'll be on the number plate affixed to the body of the unit. Go Here:http://www.bosch.com.au/content/language1/downloads/BOSCH_Starter_WEB.pdf look for "Starter Motor Visual Identification Guide" on the left and click on it. Scroll down until you see your Starter's10 digit Bosch number. (We've just got to get you to a Bosch supplier in Oz. They're showing "Repair kits" so I' m assuming [Hopefully] you can get it locally.) More Bosch:http://www.bosch.com.au/content/language1/html/1287.htm (They're kinda crafty about hiding their telephone numbers...in the US also) What you're ideally looking for is a Bosch Service Station that works on Diesel Injectors and Pumps(They are usually good people and if you have a part number they'll try and order it for you.) Second choice is a Starter Remanufacturer's shop ,They'll know how to get the planetary gears... EDIT: Reverse the two paragraphs above.(...I'm never sure what I'm typing is in relation to what I'm trying to say.) ?I think? you want this part #000 150 06 31 (It's number 17 on the parts list) Ran across this company:Euro Parts America 1 (888) 360-3876 [They may not even be in the Western Hemisphere] If it's available...I know Speed Autoteile will be able to get it. (BUT, you may not be enthused with the price 'cause of distance) Speed Autoteile Automotive Spare Parts * Import - Export Automotive Spare Parts * import - export Hohentwielsteig 3 Hohentwielsteig 3 14163 Berlin 14163 Berlin PH: +49 / 030 / 852 40 56 PH: +49 / 030 / 852 40 56 FAX: +49 / 030 / 852 18 49 FAX: +49 / 030 / 852 18 49 E-Mail: info@speed-autoteile.com E-mail: info@speed-autoteile.com Internet: www.speed-autoteile.com Internet: www.speed-autoteile.com Vertretungsberechtigter Geschäftsführer: Uwe K. Bosch Distributors, shops,Etc. (in WA)
The only handicap you'll have, is having the Mercedes part number.BUT, "they"
should have cross reference lists to the Bosch parts numbers. I'd start with: 1.King Park Auto Electrics ( I ?think? they're a rebuilder) and then work my way through the list.

compress ignite,
Thank you for a comprehensive package of assistance. I have emailed the local Bosch Auto Electrical service centre quoting the specified 10 digit number for the starter and the parts kit for it, to ask about the availability and price of parts for this repair. I may still need to contact the European contacts you have provided. For reference: the part number I copied from my starter motor is 0 001 218 021, but the Bosch catalogue indicates it should be 0 001 218 165 This should be the same starter motor as the W201 190D and the MB100 van with the OM611.911 engine Regards, Tony
