60K on my tires.
Michelin Primacy MXV4s. 205/65R15s on a W124 E320 sedan. ~50% tread still left (6/32). Barely, but more than 38% (5/32nds.) ![]() Still no complaints. Low noise, excellent rolling resistance (averaging 23.5mpg for a car that is epa rated 18/ 24/ 20.) and decent in wet weather of which we don't get much in Southern California. Some weather checking on the sidewalls (my car lives outside at home and at work.) and greying of the rubber. But both are normal.

You certainly can't go wrong with michelins. I too use 4 snows in the winter. For me, I've always felt a little reticent to spend the extra money for the big M. My S550 came OEM with Continentals - awful, awful tires. I replaced them with Yokohama Avid Envigors, and the car just came alive! I was blown away how much more quiet and the handling improved. On my 92 400E I'm running Kumho ECSTA Platinums. They are 2/3 the price of the Michelins, wear great, handle well enough. I'm happy with them. But this is a very subjective topic. Just know that all tire have very different personalities and will make a big difference in how the car performs and feels.

The wife put some Fuzion or some such pos tires on the gold E300. Worst tires I have ever experienced.

Continental has come a long way in recent years. I've been very impressed with their Extreme Contact DWS tire -- great wet traction, W speed rating and excellent tread life. I'm on my second set. And the newer Pure Contact tire looks promising -- Tire Rack tests place it head-to-head with Michelin Primacy overall, and superior on a wet track. I had a set of MX4s on my E34 before the Contis and found they slipped way too easily on wet pavement.

Fuzion Tires
Jim I had a set of Fuzions & agree they are a noisy ride. I bot them because as I recall, Fuzion is a division of Bridgestone? Is that what you recall?

Just thought I'd update. About the last month or so I feel the primacy tires are finally starting to behave a little better. I felt like they where pulling me in all directions, slightly.
They are still a bit squishy, but they are no longer an epic disappointment. I still think they are not worth the extra money, however. I just mounted a new set of general altimax snow tires, and in exception to a bit more road noise, the ride quality is nearly the same. The generals are like $67 each. I will update again in the spring when I remount them, but my conclusion today is that the conti's are the best bang for your buck.

Good timing Eugene! I was just thinking about my snow tires. They are considerably more noisy than the Primacy's but the ride quality is the same as far as I can tell.
I found that when I changed over from my Primacy's (now 4-5 years old) to my 1 year old Altimax Arcitcs that my alignment and tendency to pull hard left diminished dramatically. I know my alignment is still horribly out but the tire change made a big big difference. Im thinking I might just scrap the tires and buy a new set in the spring. Not sure if I'm going to replace with Michelins or Generals. I've got Altimax HPs on the 420SEL no complaints really, an affordable tire. MBNO actually couldnt do an alignment for me because my tie rods were frozen and needed replaced. They wanted 215 per side. I told them I'd bring it back in a week with new tie rods. I'll also slap on a new set of multi link arms. Let me tell you MBNO is way different than our dealership here. Much more upscale. We've got no AMGs...they have a whole section. THey gave me a 2013 C300 4Matic as a loaner car.. Nice car, not bad. Not as cushy as the 300D though.

It is pretty swanky over there.
If I where you I'd go to tire rack and pick up a set of the continentals. Mbno will mount and balance for 125. I'll be paying them a visit fairly soon to get a few extra keys and have some shift bushings installed on my 300te. Who did you end up seeing there?

I'm pretty sure my car was the oldest one on the property. I chuckled a little when the valet guy tried to start it and wasn't aware of the glow plugs. I bet the newer diesels dont need such long glow cycles.
General Tire is owned by Continental if memory serves. Hmm I don't think I've ever paid over 100 for mount and balance. I think the places around here charge like 10-15/tire. Hm. I ended up seeing a lovely girl named Jenna, I believe. Then another girl named Monica at the loaners counter. When I dropped the car off, I think I had Sean reschedule my appointment for next week. In my emails with Monica I mentioned the older tech like you did and she said his name was Ted Oldfield, sound familiar? Have you met him?

I might have met him if he is the skinny old guy with gray hair and I thin a mustache. There is another younger guy (30-40's) that is pretty good also. It's been a while since I have been there, but the guy I dealt with was the last door when you pulled up to the drop off area. Could be long gone by now.
In the city I usually get away with about 70 dollars for four mounted and balanced. I usually have to help though...... Last time I went there, I had a detail, alignment, and a shift bushing installed and it was almost $500. At least it has all the Starbucks coffee I can drink ![]()
