Brake Light Sensor

I have a 01 ML 55 . If the break pad sensor light comes on, is it for the front or rear break pads. ( Order my manual, take 3-6 weeks)
Tks

I would say the front, when my pads on the rear started to grind there was no light for the rear on my ML430 a couple years ago.

I just did a visual check and it appeared as their was a fair amount of pad on the fronts. The rear was looking thin. Anyone, Gilly??

Which pads are worn?

OK, here's the deal: MB changed where they put sensors on almost every year and it differed between the models. So, simply look for the sensor wire that is quite obvious as it comes out of the caliper and connects into another plug. That will tell you if there are sensors on that wheel. It's safe to say that there is always one on the front. Either way, if you pull a wheel off to look for the sensor wire, you can also check the pads closely. You haven't mentioned how many miles are on you pads, but I've gone thru 2 sets on front before the rear were replaced.
PS. There is plenty of discussion here on replacement pads. The mintex reduce the dust, but I couldn't get a good reproduction of OEM for the rear. Whichever pads you pick, you need to replace the rotors too (usually).

Carson, you have an owners manual in adobe format? I don't see how that post fits into this thread at all.
You can't automatically say if it's the front or rear pads because the light comes on. You need to inspect the pads. Usually the fronts wear out at twice the rate of the rears, but if the fronts have already been replaced, I suppose the rears could have been ovrlooked and now the indicator is coming on for a rear sensor.
The ML55 I believe has a sensor at each wheel.
