No Zerk fittings on Front Ball joints. oil um ?

Last week a builder asked me how I liked my ML320.
To keep the conversation short I said "It is fun to drive".

He said he thought of buying one for his wife but hears they "Squeek".
I told him I did have to replace the rear shorck at 90,000 miles and now the front is making noise.
Its a shame Mercedes has this Rep.

My question is, I thought I needed new struts , but a couple guys said more likly it is the ball joints and I should peel up the ball joint rubber boots and "Oil them"

I crawled underheath and those boots didnt peel up. I sure wish zerk fittings were used on upscale machines. Anyone have a simple solution ?

Jack the front up under the control arm, then get a big pry bar under the tire, and have someone work the tire up and down. If you see play in the joints - replace them. If they squeek, replace them. If no play in the joints, and no squeek in the joints, then keep moving things until you find the squeek, the replace that part.
I know, it sucks. But I think just about all cars, on average, have worn suspension parts by the time they hit 100k. At least the MLs let you know with an audible warning!

Aftermarket ball joints may not be worth it

I just had a right rear lower ball joint replaced that was about a year old. It started out tight but got loose very quickly. The rubber covering also was in shreds. It was 'Hamburg Tech' brand, beware. I replaced with OEM.
