drain ML430 torque converter by starting engine?

Love the forum.
OK, don't freak out techs... When I change my 2000 ML430 transmission filter and fluid (please let's not go into the lifetime service thing) and assuming my 2000 ML430 doesn't have the torque converter drain plug (I haven't looked but other people have said it was discontinued) and since I don't have access to a 'flush system' can I start the engine and shift the tranny for a few seconds and will the fluid in the converter drain into the pan? If only done for a few seconds will it harm anything? I do have access to compressed air. Is there a way to flush the converter with air?
(ducking service manuals and tomatoes...)
