If only done for a few seconds will it harm anything? I do have access to compressed air. Is there a way to flush the converter with air?

Good question... I too have considered trying this method to drain the TC as my 2002ML does not have a drain plug......after all, the residual oil in the system will offer protection for the few seconds the engine is running and my view is that most of the oil in the TC will be very quickly forced out back into the gearbox (sump and filter removed) .....when you consider, for example, that when you change the engine oil, the camshafts, valve gear, etc, run without pressurised lubrication for a few moments without harm until the new oil is 'picked up' so why shouldnt this also apply to the transmission?
It will be interesting to see what others think!..........
