A/C Help Needed

Hi,
My 2001 ML 320 A/C condenser has a leak and needs to be replaced. I'm
planning to do it myself - getting the condenser in/out doesn't look to
bad once the cross member (where the hood latch is located) is removed.
I already bought a r134a recharge kit and have a couple of questions.

1) Is the recharge port the fitting located just inboard of the driver's side
headlight?
2) If so, how do you get the plastic cap off?? I wanted to verify the fitting
on my recharge kit will fit, but I can't get the cap off short of breaking it.

Any suggestions/advice would be appreciated.

Thanks much
Dave

Does this recharge kit have a vacuum pump included? If not, do you have one? After installing your new parts, you need to pump down to a very hard vacuum to remove all moisture from the system prior to charging it with refrigerant. Also, does the kit have pump oil? You need to be very careful to use the right kind and amount.

ON that system there is 2 ports..high pressure & low pressure..they are different sizes so you won't hook into the WRONG one. The caps just screw off.

AS others stated you DO need to pull vacuum on the system before re-charging...& a new drier is also needed.

here is a good site to check out.

Here is a good site to check out http://www.ackits.com/ in the FAQ section it list the procedure. It does say to pull vacuum (it even say to vacuum it multiple times but can see that a a/c shop would do all this). The site even direct you to where you buy a vacuums pump (don’t know if the pump vendor is any good).

Good luck
