Brake change on ML 320

I am going to replace the brakes on my 2002 ML 320.
  • Are there any special tools needed to remove the pads, or any special tips?
  • Are there brake sensors on the front and back brakes?
  • Will I have to adjust the brake cable once I change the brakes?
  • What is the best method of bleeding the brakes? I presume using the old- traditional method is the best.
  • Does anyone have any photos of this process?

Did a 2001 ML 320 several weeks ago.

I did not take any photos but what an EASY job! It took longer to take the tire off than to replace the pads. There is a sensor on each set, my light was on for about 350 miles so I replaced both, its a cheap option.

There is a full kit with metal guides etc, next change I will go with the full kit and not just the pads and sensors.

I did not bleed them, just took the cap off the res. and c-clamped the caliper back in place with the old pad, straight forward.

Get the service DVD from Mercedes and it will give all required information, including torque specs, special tools required, etc.

What kind of pads are you going with? Just curious. I just got a new set of front and rear Satisfied ProCeramics from Tirerack today. I have been using them on the front for 30k miles, and time to replace them (and the backs too). I have been VERY happy with them.

I know you didn't ask me, but I'll chime in anyway.

Was reviewing my service records recently and realized I've been running the front and rear pads for close to 70K miles! Maybe that's a record for the front based on my previous experience and what I read here.

I'm using Mintex on the front and Textar on the rear and I got both sets from our friend Phil. I've had zero issues with front or rear pads. No noise and a reasonable amount of dust.

Careful break in

I'm still on the original pads and rotors on my 2000 320ML and they still look good. When the truck was new I did break in the pads carefully as suggested. Also broke in the engine carefully and it still dosen't burn any oil. Mileage is only about40,000, but usually short trips are supposed to be harder on vehicles.
