Gas Door Lock Problems.

On my ML.

Here is what happen. As I was locking my door. I heard a strange noise comming out near my gas door (sounds like scratching or grinding noise). I figure it was the gas door mechanism. I press the lock and unlock botton on my key a few times to see if the problem goes away. It did not. Then later the gas door will not lock. Then it worked again. I figure the gas door mechanism is about to go or need oiling/cleaning or something.

So here is my questions.

1. Most important. I know there is a manual way to unluck the gas door, in case the door will not unlock and I need gas. I don't have my manual misplaced it when I move . Picture or scanning the directions from the manual will be nice. (I know I ask to much)

2. How do I access the mechanism. To replace or clean/oil. Picture or scanning the directions will be nice. (again I know I ask to much).

3. What is there a easy way to fix this problem (ie place to insert oil or clean part). I think I have to either replace the part or take the part apart to clean it but I though I ask.

thanks

That is an electrical solenoid..most electrical components don't like lubricants.

You should consider disconnecting OR replacing that part.

Gas door problems...

I had the same thing happen to me.... I ask my dealer, they told me to go to the rear of the truck and open the fuel door manually (it's the drivers side compartment door. Just run your hand back and pull up on the fuel door tab). After you do that and lock and unlock your truck (with remote) start the truck and do the same with the locks in the truck. After that it worked just like before. If it keeps happening change the batteries in your remote...

I have had the locking mechanism come loose and one of the bolts fall into the back panel area. Fortunately it happened with the lock in the open position. I was able to access the lock by removing the access panel in the rear left interior. It was a very tight fit but I was able to retrieve the fallen bolts with a magnet and got the lock retightened, and it works as always.
