My new merc has been back with the dealer since day 1. The problem occurs at around 25-60 kph ( i am in spain ) in the background of the engine is a whislting sound like soft bell chimes. it also occurs when the car is stationary and you put your foot on the brake and bring the revvs up in drive gear up to 1200. Merc. dealer has taken the wheels off, transmission out and all other things but the noise is still there, After nearly 2 months they are now tellin me that the noise is normal ...i am not mad..it is not normal...they say it is the injection system and there is zero they can do.
Anybody got any ideas, my lawyers have written to the chairman, customer service etc but no response guess that they have my 70,000 $ |

The sound of bells is the sound of vibrating metal.
Perhaps like some metal shield is loose and vibrating.

Whenever I've got to tell a client that what they're complaining about is "normal", or, operating as designed, I demonstrate the condition on a similar vehicle. Has your dealer offered to do this?

I have had this type of noise happen on a different brand of vehicle. It was a leak in the brake booster that eventually caused the brakes to quit working effectively.
Agree that if it is normal it will be replicated on a similar 2008. Jim W. |
