Dee8go;1985240]Has alternating the octane caused any problems for you?
Not that I know of. The truck normaly runs fine. Every once in a while, there is pronounced rough idle at a traffic light. No idea if that could be a result of the 87 octane. But no pinging from too low octane.

I have also had to clean out the EGR tube twice (in 220K miles). Don't know if that could be related either.

The reason I mentioned it in my post is my suspicion that I get lower gas mileage on the lower octane fuel. It's my wife's daily driver and I have not remembered to actually prove (or disprove) this.

I've heard a lot of people say that octane doesn't affect your mileage. I couldn't say whether it does or not. I've also heard it said often by people who know more than I do that higher octane than the manufacturer specifies doesn't benefit you in any way.

ML 320 gas mileage

I have a 2002 ML 320 with 4 speed auto, the gas mileage has been very constant for over 120,000 miles between 15 & 16 mpg in town,19 mpg highway running 75 - 80 mph.
