I've heard a lot of people say that octane doesn't affect your mileage. I couldn't say whether it does or not. I've also heard it said often by people who know more than I do that higher octane than the manufacturer specifies doesn't benefit you in any way.

ML 320 gas mileage
I have a 2002 ML 320 with 4 speed auto, the gas mileage has been very constant for over 120,000 miles between 15 & 16 mpg in town,19 mpg highway running 75 - 80 mph.
