Replacing rear shock assembly

I am replacing my rear shocks and coil springs on my 98 ml 320. It seems you need to drop the rear A frame assembly. It is easier to take it off at the rear ball joint, or remove the 2 bolts holding the A frame? If you remove the ball joint do you need to press it back in place? The two A frame bolts seem easier to remove. Any advise on which way is easier ,or is there another way to get the shock and coil spring unit out?

I did it by just disconnecting the rear sway bar links (replaced them at the same time) You can get the whole assy. out without dropping the rear frames. It took some time and a curved 13mm box end wrench but its not a horrible job.

Several posts here helped quite a bit.
