Actually, I'm working while I do this. The nice part about owning the business is you don't have to worry about the boss looking over your shoulder. If I caught anyone working for me doing it, I'd fire em.

The rules change itself is interesting. Repubs pushed for those particular rules in 1993 in reaction to a series of indictments against democrats. The rules only apply to the House, not the Senate -- and I've generally perceived the House as a bunch of jokers and idiots compared to the Senate, is that bad?

Since the vote was a closed-door one, there isn't a good way to know who supported the rules change and who didn't. An Arizona paper said their guy, J.D. Hayworth, was one of "30 to 50 GOP lawmakers who opposed the change", which is interesting.

On the one hand, people are innocent until proven guilty, so you could make a weak moral argument in a sense in favor of the rule changes; on the other hand, what a stupid time to propose such changes, when your party is already viewed with such fear and suspicion. This certainly does not constitute taking the moral high road.

The idea was to suspend, not remove a Congressman under indictment, so they were not actually trying to violate his presumption of innocence - the abuse in the past being corrected was that congressmen under indictment were introducing bills that affected their cases or were using the power of their office to intimidate or bribe witnesses, so this rule was put in place so that they could not engage in official activities until the case was resolved.

The Repubs officially changed their stance on term limits. In 1992, it was a centerpiece of the "Contact with America" and the Republican Party platform. The plank has been removed and the Contract long forgotten. Interestingly enough, I believe Hagworth was one of the hypocrites on this issue, voted in on a Term Limits agenda, who now wishes it not mentioned a whole lot.

In truth, Jorn, when you program for a living you have a lot of moments while code is debugging or your downloading some big data set where you can engage in mindless crap. This beats Solitaire.

As long as I do what needs done when it needs done I can do whatever I want for the most part. Around here its a lot like being a fireman.....You set around a lot until there is a fire then you are working double time.

I have to admit, when you've brought up term limits before, I assumed you referred to the presidential term limit only. Googling further, I see your concern about congressional term limits. I'd like to see term limits tightened up, personally, however to me congressional term limits should be set at the state level.

I'm a programmer too, but I'm using the alt-tab technique, can't really say I'm compiling every time I post a screed.

Well said. This guy's idea of fairness is to say that I am "warped" and in need of therapy, yet he shrieks whenever anyone says anything disparaging about his beloved GOP.

I appreciate all those who contributed to the thread I started, which was about Tom Delay and the Republican rule change that would allow him to continue in his leadership position, even if indicted.

By the way--I have not changed my identity on this forum. I used to go by Joseph Bauers, but when they changed to their new format, it would not recognize that. I then went to Joe Bauers.

It is generally understood that boneheaddoctor is VirginiaDude in disguise. As VD, he was once canned for his inflammatory attacks.
