Is there anybody out there that is for 100% of Bush's actions, programs, and goals?

Thanks,

Is it just me, or should all of the "it's all about the oil, it's always been all about the oil" people do one of two things:

1. Stop driving your oil-burning cars and/or trucks altogether. Do not ride any oil burning public transportation. Do not fly in an oil-burning plane. Do not use an oil-burning heater. Do not use any plastics or rubber or any other petroleum-based product.

.........OR...........

2. Shut up. It's getting REALLY tiresome.

If you want to keep chanting that ridiculous mantra, then put your money where your mouth is, fellas. Buy a really nice bicycle, and start pedalling.

Oh, wait....you can't do that either....the tires are made with oil....the vinyl seat is made with oil.....the plastic grips are made with oil....the rubber brake pads are made with oil......the chain is lubricated with oil.....

I guess you're walkin'. OH, and be sure not to buy shoes with rubber soles! The oil, ya' know....

In their case, I am sure there are a number of positions they can take that I would find fascinating.

The goal of fascist societies is a highly regimented society, the exact opposite of a Marxist classless society, it is extremely class based, where everyone knows their place. Classic Italian Fascism separated the military, industry and labor unions into penultimate state owned corporations, hence the synonomous term "Corporatism". Private enterprize existed within these corporations the way subsidy corporations work in our society. Individuals were subservient to the corporation they belonged to, the corporations were in turn subservient to the State, and the State is in turn subservient to The Party, and The Party in turn is subservient to The Guide, or the Leader, who is in charge of defining and managing The National Struggle and is generally seen as a cult figure. It's organizational structure looks something like a Christmas tree. Hitler's German model was the same, but he called them "Fronts" instead of "Corporativos". The purpose of all of this is to meld society into a well-oiled machine whose sole purpose is to increase productivity to feed a millitary machine that exerts totalitarian control over society, the point Spanish and Argentine Fascism reached, or take it another step and use the military machine to gain raw materials thru conquest.

What we are seeing today is the emergence of a refined form of this, called "Friendly Fascism" or "Cowboy Fascism" by various writers, which includes mass media components not available to earlier fascist movements that are capable of "manufactuing consent" by bombarding the populace with media messages that contain only one set of explanatory facts repeated ad naueseum, with a uniform conclusion mouthed by both media and government officials. In this new model, Mussolini's model changes slightly by making the State and Party subservient to the Corporations, with the leader cult carefully manipulated by the corporations using their mass media component.
This eliminates the need for a lot of the totalitarian trappings of earlier fascist states, and achieves the same goal - the subservience of all segments of society to a power elite.
A classless society is not regimented? Wow.

So our society is analogous? We're a regimented society? Wow.

How can free enterprise exist in a regimented society?

Whatever a subsidy corporation is, I'm against it.

Media manufacturing consent is new? Lenin is laughing. Goebbels is laughing.

And so forth....

Funny, I never noticed before how these words could be used to describe different views. Since I'm a believer in recycling:

Paranoia strikes deep
Into your life it will creep
It starts when you're always afraid
Step out of line and they'll
Take you away.

You better stop
Hey, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down.

You better stop
Hey, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down.

You make it seem like you really believe things can only be black or white, like there are only two possible solutions. Then you frame the opposing view in a totally unrealistical and ludicrous analogy. I see how this makes it easy for you to rationalize your predisposition to dismiss the opposing view. This is probably comforting for you and for people to read who hold similar views. No matter how comforting this is to you, from here it makes your solution seem more like "learn to drink the Koolaide and enjoy its effects, like me, or go to hell." Kirk's and dolebludger's depiction of persistent plotting and scheming to undo what is great about America is at least being offered knowing it is a projected conclusion from a pattern of fact they have detected. Their offereing is intended to ask the readers to think and respond either reinforcing the pattern they recognize, or revealing some additional facts to show how the pattern they see is inconsistent with all the facts. Your response, and that of many others is to tell them to shut up because you said so, or because they are wrong, or to just shut up.

When I read these persistent and badgering threads going back and forth, I am actually comforted by the fact that there are people worried that the patterns of behavior by the Government, embodied by George W. Bush and his band of expert exploiters of the religiously motivated zealots, are similar to the ones displayed by the early power building of Hitler. The persistent, ringing response of "it can't happen here" in all the varied verses you recite makes me uncomfortable. Recall, Frank Zappa was not really suggesting it can't happen here. He was telling us that that attitude is a free pass to make it so for those inclined to try.

By the way, there are many more solutions for the oil shortage if we had $100 billion to spend year in and year out pursuing it instead of spending thousands of American lives and the same money in Iraq. The world is really being played out in technicolor or the all natural equivalent with an infinite number of shades and hues. And it can happen here if we let it. Jim

If I didn't know any better, I'd say that was a dig.

Dear Mister Fantasy play us a tune
Something to make us all happy
Do anything take us out of this gloom
Sing a song, play guitar
Make it snappy
You are the one who can make us all laugh
But doing that you break out in tears
Please don't be sad if it was a straight mind you had
We wouldn't have known you all these years

I'm sorry but that frightens me a bit. You seem to be saying that regardless of the facts you will support the US.

I look at the facts and then decide if and what I will support. If the US did something wrong then I will not support it.
