I'll tell you what scares me... some governmental organization called the TSA put into place some new rules regarding 'alien flight training' requiring flight instructors to inspect citizenship/greencard/work permit/visa documents, get students fingerprinted, acquire background checks on prospective flight students, with a penalty of certificate revocation if not complied with, Then the TSA didn't even bother to communicate this to the FAA or any major pilot organizations, leaving a lot of peoples' livelihoods flapping in the wind. I was lucky, although two of my students are 'aliens' here on visas, they're grandfathered in. I just learned about the regs this past weekend, over a month after they went into effect No interagency coordination; unilateral rulemaking going into effect with no public inspection first; bizarre infringements of privacy being slipped into spending bills... I am getting scared now. |

I posted this sarcastic little rant on another thread, to hopefully enlighten Z concerning my positions, but I'll copy it here, for your benefit: Quote:
Yes! That's it! I'm so Republican, I can't stand it! I love the war on drugs! I love the anti-abortionists! I love that my government decides who can be married and who cannot! I love the prayer-in-school/10 Commandment crowd! I love the legitimization of illegal immigrants! I love the public school system and "no child left behind"! I love perscription drug entitlements! I love keeping Social Security on "life support" for another 25 years! I love the Patriot Act--I have "nothing to hide, after all"! I love that our government is growning like Kudzu! And most of all, I love PAYING for all of this! Three cheers for the IRS! I also love...... Oh........ ....Wait a second.... You almost had me believing it there for a second, Z. I'm glad I woke up from THAT bad dream! The ONLY issue that I am aware of on which I diverge from the stated platforms of the Libertarian party is on the Iraq/pre-emptive strike issue. Otherwise, my convictions are right on course, just like a "good little Libertarian" should be. ![]() I say all of this as if I am somehow required to defend my "Libertarianism" against your attacks. This is certainly not the case. My convictions do not hinge upon your approval. Mike

VollkommenWar:
Please note my spellings of "Babptists" and "Nazerines" in my posts above. I legitimately can't spell well at all, and it is not typographical error. I can't spell, period. I'm new to this board, so I hope everyone will understand this, and after over 60 years of life, it isn't going to improve. I have sent a PM to webwench expressing my regret at what was , on the surface, an insult, but was entirely unententional. I participate on the MBCA, Honda S 2000, and several Cruise boards. My spelling is horrible there too. But I never "call names" but only adress issues. I almost flunked out of grade school for bad spelling. Slid through high school, college, and law school where it didn't matter. Had a secretary all of my career. Never had a keyboard on my desk. And now I'm retired and guess what? They took away my secretarey. I wish they'd bring her back. Thanks, Richard |

Mikemover:
Out of curiousity, what is the position of the Libertarians on the Iraq/pre-emptive strike issue? Thanks, Richard |

www.lp.org for more details. This has been the source of much tension in the Libertarian party in recent months, between those who blindly "toe the party line", and those of us who actually DO think independently, as every Libertarian SHOULD. Mike

Yes, if it were just a "war for oil", that would be a tough quandry. Fortunately, that's not the case. :p Mike

![]() How am I being "selective and arbitrary" about it? I support EVERYTHING that the libertarian party stands for, EXCEPT for their position on non-intervention/non-pre-emption. If disagreeing with ONE item constitutes "selective and arbitrary", then I guess I'm guilty as charged. I do not "support" the current administration on ANY significant issue, EXCEPT the most important one facing us right now: Terrorism and the Middle East situation. If it weren't for that pesky little problem, I'd MUCH, MUCH rather have a Libertarian in office. But the Middle East concern trumps all other concerns right now. If we don't work to solve THIS problem, then all the other issues will not matter. Mike

Ok, we've established your guilt, so your punishment should be to vociferously denounce all the anti-libertarian policies of the administration you voted for--right?
