Snow in TX

KV must be out in the backyard tonight making the most of the snow flurries that hit Houston tonight.

HOUSTON -- A bitter-cold Christmas Eve turned into a white Christmas, sort of, with light snow flurries falling in some parts of town, much to the delight of Houston-area children of all ages. Temperatures were in the 20s and 30s across the Houston area Friday morning, and they did not go much higher as the day progressed.

The 30 percent chance for snow came true for many areas south of Interstate 10. Local 2 viewers from around town, including Fort Bend County, Clear Lake, Mont Belvieu, and the Galleria area, reported seeing light snow flurries as early as 8 a.m.

At 9:30 a.m., snow flurries and ice pellets fell in southwest Houston along the Southwest Freeway at Gessner. By Friday afternoon, snow was still falling across town. The last time Houston actually had measurable snow fall was in 1989, when 1.7 inches of snow fell.

Snowing like crazy. It's beautiful. Really adding to the festivity of the evening. The church a few blocks down has some carolers out, and who the heck would ever think they would see carolers walking around in a snow storm on Christmas Eve in Houston. Hope it keeps up all night, Houston's never had a White Christmas, at least not in the last 100 years or so. Hope everyone else is having as merry a Christmas as we are!

Our son who lives in Houston has been ribbing me for the last couple of weeks about how nice it is down there while we suffer with the cold. I know he's really enjoying it deep down inside.

Since we'll be down in the 20's tonight, the snow will be on the ground until at least in the afternoon. Both diesels are COVERED in snow. I will get up early in the morning with my digital camera and take some photos in the light. I haven't seen snow since I was a tot (back in 89'), it's even snowing down in the Rio Grande Valley, Brownsville, etc...

This one is going to make the news. We've got a good 2" on the ground here in Clear Lake. All the sentimental folks are going to be getting teary-eyed over their White Christmas. Myself, I'm going to teach those Texan kids of mine what getting hit by a snowball feels like. I'm already planning my ambush. This storm will be one for the history books.

Must be all that "global warming."

I miss winter, and I've been enjoying every minute of this. Too bad there wasn't enough around where I live, to run the snowmobile. Hopefully, winter will give us another shot this season, and leave behind more than a tease.
