OK you computer-savy people. I need help.
Somewhere my computer picked up a virus. The free version of AVG sends a message that I have a "Trojan Horse Dialer in windows\system\_T.exe". The message says to run AVG for windows to remove the virus. When I run the AVG version I have, it can't find it. Neither can Ad-aware, nor spybot. I get this anoying popup message every couple of seconds. There is also a funny blink to the cursor.
Could I just remove the file? Is it a "real" file, or one just made by the virus?

That's not a virus -- sounds like ad-ware.

Yeah -- haven't heard that myself in a few years.....

I belive MS Fowler asked for help and not for snide comments regarding her "obsolete" equipment. Not everybody has the burning desire to be on the "bleeding edge" of technology.

I also think a lot of people upped to XP just to dump ME (what a POS). Better to stick with 95/98 than ME.

I have no intention fighting in this fine morning however this comment "who runs windows 95 anymore. suppose it's on a 486 as well" is uncalled for, don't you think so? Just what possible purpose did it serve? She asked for help and she got a put down for no reason.

you may also search your computer for "_T.exe" and then remove anything related. also when you find it then look for all other files installed on that same date and look through those to see if any of them are related to the dialer... i think it may seat itself in your system restore also....
