Anyone met a Beatle?

This is probably one of the silliest things I've attempted in my currently staid, boring and conventional life, but I'd like to personally meet a Beatle before they or I die. (Knowing the dismal stats for celebrities dying before their time, it makes it a sort of race I'd like to win first).

There's only Paul and Ringo left of course. And because I'm not in the music business it's unlikely I'll get to meet them as equals. And as a refined gentleman in the prime of life (cough!), the sort of behaviour that gets eager fans to their dressing room door is not my bag. I'm also not that keen on being in a crowd of thousands waiting for a handshake.

So, how do I do it? I can travel anywhere, but not senselessly... ie, there'll have to be a guarantee of a meeting at the end.

Suggestions and ideas please!

Take the risk and write to their record company. No doubt they own it.

Ask them to pass on that you wish to meet one just for the sake of it before you and they depart for the record store in the sky.

If one is doing a concert in your region they may suprise you by sending you back stage pass tickets, or they may even call in.....

they are normal people like you and i and they will respect being treat like a normal person. Daft tho it maybe, invite them round for coffee?

only cost you the postage even if it fails.

Any more ideas - maybe someone has met a celebrity in similar circumstances and has some tips?

Up to this point of my life, I have been the one that others have wanted to meet so it's a curious role reversal.

If in NY....

Based on experience....
There is much to be said about standing near stage doors of theaters if you'd truly like to meet them. The thing is you kind of have to catch them when they are arriving, instead of after the show when they are more willing to talk.
Also, walking up and down Park Ave. or 5th I've probably seen a dozen or so celebrities of all types.
I did meet Ringo once, but not in NY.
I used to teach computer classes involving 3 hr tutorials at all various times of day, so I often had long break times with nothing to do. I went celebrity hunting to pass the time, get exercise, and know the city better.
I never really bothered anybody any more than confirm identities and maybe a thank you for their talent, whatever it might be.

Hmm. That's more a groupie/fan behaviour than I'd prefer to emulate... too opportunistic, and I'll be given no more than a nod, I guess, like everyone else. I'm looking for a better form of introduction - even if it only results in 10 seconds of hello time.

It's a curious mid-ground I'm standing on. On the one hand I don't want to appear an adoring fan (I consider everyone my equal anyway, and don't have any idols), but on the other I don't have a professional or shared background with a Beatle. Apart from spending 10 years as a part-time, semi-professional bass player, that is.

I have much in common with writers and marketers, but little with musical celebrities - but that makes it a far more interesting challenge anyhow.

More thinking to do...

In Wellington, the tip of the bottom of the North Island, a few miles away from where Jack Black, Adrian Brophy and Peter Jackson are making "King Kong" right now. Have you been here?
