firefox since about a year now - now running 1.0.1

many great feature/mouse gestures/tab browsing/good full screen capability

their e-mail program thunderbird is also much better than outlook

2nd choice is opera.

unfortunately need to keep using IE for windows updates...

Firefox question

I just installed Firefox and have one issue:

When clicking a link in an e-mail, the browser loads the page just fine, but leaves it in the background or minimized.

Explorer always loads the page and automatically maximizes the window.

Can Firefox do this?

TIA.

I've never tried using the email part of the program. Maybe I should since I use outlook express or better named OUTHOUSE EXCREMENT .
I tried updating it an it seemed to stall on the process. I have a dial up connection and things take a while but it seemed to take too long.

Firefox calls window size, but not window state (I'm sure a future version will correct this oversight). The best you can do is manually enlarge the window, then close it. Firefox will next open it as you closed it.

Yes, this worked.

I maximized the window and closed it. Then, when using an e-mail link, the link would not open Firefox. I had to manually open Firefox, but, after it was opened, the links from e-mails now work as designed. Click on the link and the firefox window is immediately maximized, similar to Explorer.

A bit strange, but functional. Thanks for the tip.

I hate to gloat, but, just today, I dumped my very unreliable DSL for the cable.
Typical speeds of 3,000-4,000 Kbps. on download.

The more I use it, the more I like it.

The tabs on the top are fantastic.

I'm not sure of why the browser opens tabs for some operations and opens another window, similar to IE, on other operations.

The search feature in the bookmarks is a Godsend!!!!

The multiple search engines in one small window is also beautiful.

Kind of like this cable modem. Speed increase from 700Kbps on DSL to 3500Kbps on the cable.

You can never go back.

So, no automatic updates with Firefox?

What's the protocol? Open Explorer and it will automatically get the updates, or do you manually go and get them??

I voted Mozilla and then saw Firefox listed. Isn't Firefox Mozilla?

I recently installed Firefox and the manufacturer is Mozilla. I believe they are the same thing.

for MS windows operating system updates you need to get them via IE. go to the windows update web site.

it won't work with firefox. assume you have MS windows auto update turned off.

firefox itself has an auto alert up in the top right hand corner for their updates for the program/themes/extensions etc that you have installed.

Yep, that's exactly what I did, thanks. Worked fine. Now IE will sit and gather dust.

Switched the whole family to Firefox. They all love it. Its so painless.

There is a little red arrow at the top right for updates. Firefox is now up to version 1.0.2
