Firefox here. I use T-Bird too, but I wish it were further along the development process--needs more work.

I've been using Firefox since the early development days. I loved it even then, especially when compared to Internet Explorer. The tabbed browsing and extensions are great features, not to mention its security.

I also use T-Bird and agree with the previous post that it is not quite ready for prime-time. But, it will be.

Can someone explain the switch required to go to Firefox?

My main question is my large group of "favorites". Can they be transferred?
Or do all the favorites need to be built from scratch?

TIA

When you do the install it asks if you want to transfer your bookmarks. If you say yes it copies them for you. There are 2 sites I must use IE for, everything else I use firefox.

Great feature article about Firefox and Blake Ross is the Feb2005 Wired Magazine. In response to a virus that hit his IE, at age 14 he hacked Netscape (Mozilla) to make it better, then at 19 he came out with Firefox. There's a great graphic in the article showing the different software logos attacking the Microsoft "castle".

Thanks Gilly!

A big thanks goes out to Gilly. He helped me by adding a poll to this thread.
Now it's a true poll thread.

I've encountered a very interesting thing while using Firefox.
I was able to open two different browser screens within the same browser. There were two tabs within the browser screen that I could click back and forth from. I have no idea how I did that and I haven't been able to do it again.

Right click on the link and select open in new tab.

The tabs are one of the better features IMO
Go here: https://addons.update.mozilla.org/extensions/moreinfo.php?application=firefox&version=1.0&os=Windows&id=158
To install: "Tabbrowser Preferences 1.1.1"... to gain control over "new links" in tabs. Once installed: Go to the Tools menu and select Options - select Tabbed Browsing on the left side of the screen and set as you wish.

With opera, you can open a new tab with a held right click and an 'L' motion of the mouse. Rather handy. In Firefox you can open a new tab from the file drop down menu also.

You can download mouse gestures for Firefox, I heard Opera is pretty good but haven't ventured to give it a try.

Yeah. Right click on a blank part of that navigation toolbar and select customize - Then grab the little search bar and drop it in the customize box... and its gone.
