SEATTLE - I guess it stands to reason.
Since state lawmakers are so adept at shirking responsibility, it seems logical that they look to find ways for others to do the same.
Voila! House Bill 2178.
This is a measure that targets the folks who create, and the folks who sell, so-called "violent" video games.
Here's the basic premise of HB 2178.
Say someone under 17 plays one of those "violent" games and then goes out and commits a crime that can be somehow linked to the game. Well, HB 2178 makes the people who dreamed up the game, and the ones who sold it, liable.
What. A. Stroke. Of. Genius!
With just one piece of legislation, moms and dads can be absolved of being crappy, inattentive parents, and young people would learn that what they do is simply not their fault.
And once this bill gets passed?
Why then lawmakers can go after authors and publishers; movie producers and actors.
I mean, we all know that books and movies can be just as insidious as video games.
As I see it, the only problem with lawmakers legislating the end to personal responsibility is: What will become of people who take no personal responsibility?
After all, not everyone can be a state legislator."

only if the gov't makes a flight simulator available where the object is to take over a plane in mid-flight and crash into buildings with it. where bonus points are awarded for carnage.

As a crappy, inattentive parent I have to side with the government on this one. I cannot monitor everything my child is exposed to. Limiting what they ARE exposed to can do no harm as far as I can tell.

This is one of the problems that is leading to the downfall of society - lack of responsibility for your personal actions. If you do the crime, you can do the time.
Coming from an educator, many (not all) parents feel it is the responsibility of the schools to raise their children. This is just the first step in a chain of shirking responsibility. I have even had a parent tell me, "I am sending my child off because YOU (meaning the teacher) can't raise him right." Almost lost my job over this one because I told her it was her responsibility and if she didn't want a child she should have kept her legs closed. Sorry, it came out of my mouth before I could help myself. But I accepted responsibility for what I said and also accepted the punishment - most satisfying three days off without pay I ever experienced!

I thought my principal was going to choke!! He even apologized because he had to suspend me without pay - also wanted to know how satisfying it was to say that to her!!!
Another teacher in the meeting just sat with her mouth open. It was truly one of those moments when time just stood still.....
