I'd rather have helium in my tires.

Shhoooot, I'd use Radon or Krypton. No rxn with the tire rubber, big atoms may not leak as fast and you get the added bonus of glowing tires for that nighttime ghetto look.

P.T. Barnum was right. There is a sucker born every minute. There is no such thing as a free lunch. Somewhere down the line the cost of the nitrogen is being recouped. Sounds like smoke and mirrors to me. At some point down the line "free air" will disappear and you will pay for the nitrogen.

It sounds like they are trying to seperate suckers from their money. Modern tires don't leak much air. I check mine once in awhile and they never seem to need adjustment.
For the few times a year I have to add a couple psi I'll keep the $20 in my pocket.

how many of you dolts have read the part where it says they are doing the nitrogen fillups for free as long as a (or the) tires were purchased from costco?
if you have read it, then you wouldn't keep talking about the price. its free.

Which part of "no free lunch" were you incapable of understanding? One way or another they will recoup the money. It will be added into the price of the tires or if nothing else they will write it off as an ad promotion (that you pay for by default). Those nitrogen machines cost a bundle. The cost of doing business is always passed on to the consumer. At some point in time you will be charged for it and if you balk they will either give you some bs explanation as to the benefits of nitrogen and try to shame you into accepting it or they will tell you they will replace it with normal air "as soon as they can get to it". I didn't get to be this old and mean by being stupid. Wake up and smell the coffee Smacks.

Oh my GOD! No way! They can't do it! What if they did charge $3 dollars per tire and added it to the price of the tire!!!! What is the world coming to.............................. Time to protest! I started thinking and Costco is the only place to get tires, I mean its not like you can just go somewhere else if you're paranoid about paying in the long run for nitrogen in your tires, even though they say it's free and have no plans to charge for it.

It's all bull*****, and I've heard the physics behind it and it's a waste of time and money. I'll get the poop and post it here.
and BTW, P.T. Barnum never said "there's a sucker born every minute' - it was uttered by his competiton: The Cardiff Giant was the most talked about exhibit in the nation. Barnum wanted the giant to display himself while the attraction was still a hot topic of the day. Rather than upping his offer, Barnum hired a crew of workers to carve a giant of his own. Within a short time, Barnum unveiled HIS giant and proclaimed that Hannum had sold Barnum the original giant and that Hannum was now displaying a fake! Thousands of people flocked to see Barnum's giant. Many newspapers carried the version that Barnum had given them; that is, Hannum's giant was a fake and Barnum's was authentic. It is at this point that Hannum -- NOT BARNUM -- was quoted as saying "There's a sucker born every minute." Hannum, still under the impression that HIS giant was authentic, was referring to the thousands of "fools" that paid money to see Barnum's fake and not his authentic one. |

Your tires will generate the same amount of heat no matter what is in them. N2 is used not because of molecule size (air is mostly N2). It is used because it does not have water vapor in it. On street tires there is NO REASON to not use air. Race tires use N2 so the water vapor does not turn to steam, and to control expansion of the gas due to heat.
