Me neither and I do emergency planning and disaster preparadness on our base. It's the kind of thing you have to think of before the event, not after. I do know that lack of water has to be at the critical point right now. I think I'd be dropping all water at this point with limited food. Boiling would be good too, I'm surprised you don't see more fires on the little ground that is left than you do on TV.
My wife and I were having pretty much the same discussion going on here regarding what to do. Where can you drive in from? Where can you land a helicopter with all the FOD, airstrips are underwater, boats have to be airboats or flat bottom because props get stuck in the debris. Hard enough as is, now people are shooting at you. God bless those Coast Gaurd, Navy and Army guys down there. I only wish we could send in the Marines, but that seems unlikely according to dculkin's post above. Could you grant leave for the military folks and then deputize into the state police? Just speculation, all that can be done from here. I'm rooting for the 300 state troopers back from Iraq though, I'm sure they learned a thing or two about urban warfare there.

That's say 10 million liters, 6 million MRE's and about a million cubic feet of latrines per day. In that part of Louisiana, a trench is not an especially useful idea. How many portalets would be required for 2 million people and where would you stage them and where would you place them?

Bot
Yes the numbers are just overwhelming. I doubt if we even have the bottled water and MRE's anywhere, but that goes to the heart of this homeland prepairedness thing. I think this particular event was one of FEMA's top five potential emergencies that they'd planned out already. I'd hope the news people and photogs have water to offer the people they're interviewing all day long.
I'm haunted by the scene of this despeate mom whose baby was going out on her. I've been to war, and this is causeing me a lot of stress - because I'm not there and just have to watch I think.

This is a civilized society, we live in the 21st century the last time I checked. The civil war ended a looooong time ago, bro. What do you think would happen if looters were shot? More civil unrest, that's what. Ever heard of putting people in jail first? Even some of the police have been found looting. Think they should be shot?

You claim you have been here a loooooooong time. I am so impressed.

Just Ignore me if you want. I don't need respect from someone get's insulted because I didn't agree with you about shooting looters on site. I guess that's not a useful contribution in your eyes.

MikeMover the ultimate hypocrite.

You are really a piece of work. You tell everybody to "shut it" or "quit whining" if you don't like what they have to say. You are right sir, you really contribute to this forum. With remarks like "your wrong" or "nobody wants to hear it" you could be Bill O'Reilly's mini-me sidekick.

No, read after I posted.

Did the poster take the comment back?

I'm tired of seeing tragedy and the first thing I read is "the rest of the world always takes our help, but where are they when we need help?" Gimmie a freakin' break.

We should be focused on helping these victims of this hurricane, not finger pointing. Focus on being human being and helping others, not acting like a jerk.

Why don't you read the thread before you go off all half-cocked and all. It was way more about helping the victims than finger pointing (as you did so well in the above post I see) before Easyrider began with some rather silly statements.

I think though, that this time you really managed to put the "knee-jerk" into "knee-jerk liberal". Perhaps a pre-emptive apology would be in order?

This was comment was about helping the victims? This is the comment I was posting about. Not anything else.

The rest of your personal attack I will ignore.

If you want to keep talking about this, be my guest, but it won't be with me.

OMG!!
Does that mean I made it to your ignore list on just what I said above? I wasn't even really trying... Please come back, I can be so much more insulting.

Yeah. I just separate the looters from the robbers and rapists. The latter definitely need a bullet delivered to the head. Looting is definitely a grey area because someone might be trying to get shoes to protect their family's feet or a radio to get important news. At least thats why I would do it. But anyway I'm done bickering on this. I'm going to help out the only way I can, which is to give a few bucks to the Red Cross.

Easyrider and I have already worked out our misunderstanding.

Perhaps you should read a little more thoroughly before commenting.

And you should DEFINITELY mind your own f***ing business.

A little reminder of why:
