Few years back when I was looking at windows my brother pointed out to me about the fine print Pella was written into their warrranties.....which literally covers almost nothing as a result.......

At the Time he was a salesman for a competitor...

You are 100% correct. The warranty covers parts, and ONLY if they can't get around it by blaming installation error. Even then they totally hammer you on the labor charge. In the end, you pay 400% more for the window PLUS the hassle. You could have bought a $120 window and never had a problem, or buy a $480 window and had to have it replaced once or more (I would guess more is the right answer here.).

Well I don't know how they are today, but I did not like the look of the Patio Door unit at the Menards, screen on the inside ??

I put in an Anderson, the Oak woodwork is beautiful, although I take credit for the finishing !!

I do remember, many years ago, my cousin. Who is a carpenter/cabinet marker that Norm would take lessons from, was remodeling his house. He needed some Syklite windows, and asked a buddy who was a Pella salesman. Told him NOT to use their skylites, but did recommend their windows.

re written warranties. Read most, they should give you the 5 bucks it cost to have a lawyer write it and print it, and tell you to F**K OFF right from the beginning.
Although I have found most companies to actually be pretty fair regarding warranties.

Well. Thought I would give folks an update on this one!

Last week Pella Service came out and took at look at my issues.

First let me start off by saying that the two people they sent were very very nice and really knew what they were talking about. The one fella had been doing it for almost 30 years and the other guy was being trained to replace him when he retires. This guy really knew his stuff. I don't blame anything on the two guys. They are basically just trained to come over and look at things and measure. That's about it. Had I paid for that service call I would be royally pissed off because I could have just as easily measured and told them what they would see over the phone. But anyway...

Here's the out come. What I would like to hear is if you think this is a fair deal or not. I'll make my thoughts known as I write.

The 4 sashes that have the corrosion. Currently they are finsihed and poly'ed to perfection. Pella is going to get me 4 new sashes that I will need to: Pick up at service center, finish and poly, and install. ALL MYSELF. NO HELP FROM PELLA

The drip edge of the actual window unit corrosion. I was told to sand it down and they would give me a can of "Pella White" spray paint to paint it myself with. ALL MYSELF. NO HELP FROM PELLA

The door drip edge. Same as the window drip edge. Here's some paint. Take care. ALL MYSELF, NO... ahhhh, you get the idea.

The spot between the panes of glass on the door. Pick up glass at service center, remove and install new glass myself. Silicone it, etc. ALL MYSELF, NO... yeah, that again.

The corroded hardware on the strom door, I have to contact a different number. Turns out that Pella bought Larson. YEAH! Remember them? Larson is now Pella!

So there you have it. $1000 for a pair of windows and $2000 for a triple panel slider, all of which could have been bought for 30% of what I paid... and I have to sand it and spray paint it myself...

Hmmmmm... am I being ungrateful or am I getting the shaft.

?? Pete

P.S. They considered this a COURTESY by the way. They feel they are doing ME a favor.
