We essentially discussed this subject in school and came to a common conclusion that some people are more fruitful to society staying here and bettering themselves. I'm not saying that I am a mastermind but I am more "school smart" than regular people at my college (Highest Honors currently >3.85 gpa). It's sort of like sending Einstein to fight hand to hand combat when he can be here improving society. Now, don't shoot the messenger, just stating what my professor said about what type of people should join the military. I don't necessarily agree since I have known many intellectual people that are currently serving.
You are the poster child of an armchair ardmiral. Go get a job, learn some real life experience, and come back to discuss.

Remember one thing though, just because you don’t agree with my ideals and morals does not mean that I am any less clever than you are.
You just take one large dose of your own medicine. You are the one who post this crap flaming other people.

This sounds like a pretty decent idea. I'm going to use this one in my debate club when we meet next week. I am not sure if you and I mean the same thing but free communitty service would be great for everybody. It would show the lower side of society to people like "me" and it would teach work ethics to the lazy.

It seems that all we do in our debate class is argue but neither side has any solutions.

Thanks DieselAddict. So does this mean that the rednecks and bible thumpers are republican and that the cosmopolitans no matter what their income are democrats. Look at John Corzine (mega rich from NJ) and Michael Bloomberg the billionaire NYC mayor who only ran as a Republican because the Democratic ticket was too crowded?

I too am for solutions, not ideologies. Take care of our own first, some just need more help than others, like the poor and the elderly.

I am anti-military but I know that basic training and two years of service straightened out many a boy that may have strayed from the correct path of responsibilty for his own actions, and a good work ethic.

I can admit to defeat. This one has got me stumped.
This is what happens when it's one mind vs 14.

Is there a government (.gov) site that can confirm this?

Here's one you can present to your debate club: Selection of congressional representatives should be like jury duty; the names of all legally registered US voters are entered into a Congressional Pool from which members are selected to a two year term of service to their country.

Here's another simple one; All automobile liability insurance should be sold at the gas pump.

I won't go into various pros and cons of either topic here, but would encourage you to submit them for club discussion and let your fellow forum members know how it went.

It just means that I learned a new thing. I like debating with all you "old farts" because I always walk away with something new.

I need to learn to stick to one topic though....I opened the thread with wacky democrats and I strayed off into military, welfare, poor people, education and Einstein.

Anyway, it was fun creating havoc here once again. Although this time, I was all alone since BHD is banned (again ) and Narwhal quit the forum.

I'm off to my 4:00pm class.

This is the first time I have ever been called an old fart. I'm not sure if I like that. I am only 45. I thought an old fart had to be at least 60.

Class at 4PM on Friday now that sucks! In my college days we would already be imbibing. Or on my way to work to pay for college.
