It kills me - the errant parent(s) give no damn about what the others think , I dont think it occurs to them that they are using their children against someone else. In divorce, no one would ever admit to using a child against someone ("no, I wouldnt do that to my kids...") but in Aged parents/IneedFreeDayCare/IneedaTaxWriteoff, Kids are "used" all the time.

Temper my post with this:
I used to want to slap a grandparent who said, "I dont wanna piss off my daughter in law, she might not bring her kids over"...
Until I heard the story of another grandparent, who said 'I'm not helping my son anymore' and by extension sad 'I dont care what happens to my grandchild...' My heart has changed, I see the need for compassion...but both situations still suck.

I don;t think it will come to that, at least with my neice, she's too close to me for her to not want to see me, even if less than now, which is once or twice week, for the most part.

She'll be a teenager soon and won't be interested in doing things with me as much anyway.

It's the little kid who will be affected more. That's my current brother-in-laws son and more than likely if I have any type of falling out with him over this current issue, I will probably not be able to see him as much. I will not go over and visit in a house where I do not feel comfortable in.

Can't worry about things I can't control.

Don't let anyone blackmail you or threten you by saying "I'll cut you off from...." or they will have cut you off all right. From your testicles. This is like when my mom threatened me with choosing between them and the wife, I warned them that historically nobody that ever made me choose ever won the choice.

I was lamenting this recent situation with my sister and 2 additional things came to mind.

When we bought them their house about 5 years ago, it was under my dad's name. About 6 mos into making payments, my lil' sis calls me and ask if I thought if it was a good idea to get an accidental death/health policy offered by Wells Fargo to pay off the house for them in case he died.

I said no, because I thought it unfair to profit from his death, she disagreed saying something ike, "we're not profiting, we're just covering our tracks" and got a little upset. She never asked my father because she knew I would never let him do it. He always has and continues to ask me for advise.

I don't have time to type the next one so I'll do it later.

Oh the pain......Lol!

Sounds like you're the head of the family now... just like Michael.

One day your Dad will pass, your sis will divorce that SOB, come back and home and devote her life back to the famiglia. You'll move the family to NC where you will enjoy your retirement in the tobacco fields while watching your grandkids grow up. One of them will become a Senator, another a doctor. You'll smile and remember you did good.
