Read this today in the local paper and boy does this really angers me....
What do others out here feel would be an appropriate punishment for these freaks?
I cannnot figure out who needs a beating more...Can you?

Broward judge grants bond to priest charged with sexual abuse

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -- A Broward judge has granted bond to a retired Roman Catholic priest charged with sexually abusing a young boy.

Neil Doherty can be released on $70,000 bond, Broward Circuit Judge Susan Lebow ruled Monday. Doherty must surrender his passport, cannot have contact with the alleged victim or with children younger than 18 and must wear an electronic monitoring device.

The former priest at St. Vincent's Catholic Church in Margate was arrested in January on eight counts of sexual battery, lewd and lascivious acts and molestation. He was denied bail a day after he was arrested at a Fort Lauderdale hotel.

While at the Margate parish, the priest allegedly drugged and raped the alleged victim over a five-year period beginning in 1996, deputies said.

"The defendant is a major threat to the community, especially to young people," said prosecutor Dennis Siegel. "He has a lengthy history." Still they let him out...

I bet this judge would feel different if his son was one of the victims !!!!!

I think they have gotten away with stuff for ages. It's only recently that people have come forward. The vast majority of priests are honorable and decent, but these few whittle away the trust and integrity of all. I hope by now the church has set up a policy where more than one adult must be present when supervising kids.

I agree he should be tied to a pole and whipped until until he screams in agony. But appparently the Judge feels he's innocent until proven guilty and deserve his freedom to prepare his defense. The judge is walking a fine line by implementing his restrictions on the defendent and preserving the priests constitutional rights. I wonder who out up the bond for him?

A lot more goes into a bond hearing than most people are aware. While I feel that he should have to spend the days awaiting his trial hanging from his nuts with safety pins from the ceiling of his cell, $70,000.00 in this case is NOT a low bond.

I would bet it was lowered from an initial $250K or so, and would be curious to know if anyone has the time to find out.

I think it is more about rapists feeling the fear, vulnerability, pain, and helplessness that their victims felt.

What punishment do you propose?

I'm a lot more,.. let's say philosophical about the whole issue....
I say when we catch one of these freaks, mentally ill or not, we take him to town center and on a Friday evening, when the whole town is watching, chop off his head. I bet then all these sicko's would get the message.

This one freak from South Florida, that molested and killed this little girl Carlie, claims he was on "drugs" and now he shouldn't get the death penalty. I say he's correct, why waste tax payer dollars on appeals and such..off with his head, then lets see how quickly the next POS tries the same thing...I bet that "mental" sickness gets cured for sure..

Isn't he innocent until proven guilty? Has anyone seen undeniable proof that he molested anyone?

And if he's found guilty, he should spend the rest of his life behind bars. Period.

That's why I love the state of georgia, we have tough sex offender laws with full legislative support, great law enforcement and community involvement.

The cops love armed citizens and commend you for it when they pull you over for minor traffic violations, I speak from personal experience.

Ga. has been on a great uphill slant when it comes to tough laws and punishment for criminals, all the while making it great for law abiding citizens to get involved without abridging any rights enjoyed by the law abiding.

They are very tough on drunk driving, drug activity, and very importantly sex offenses with standards that should be set for the rest of the states.

This is a great state to live in unless you plan on causing trouble, then, look out because the citizens will get you, and you better hope the cops get you first.

I'm glad the sex offender laws got tougher because I foster sexually abused children, and I'm living everyday with the ramafications of abused children and the problems they face daily.

The state is very active in making the lives better for abused children and will assist in any way possible.
I can't say enough about this great state.

Alot of thanks needs to go to senator saxby Chambliss for his tireless efforts to get some good, tough bills through, and if you send him an e-mail, he will respond with a very nice heartfelt reply, usually long, and that means he cares, I like that in a representative.

"only in the F'**n bible belt. The Broward Judge is probably some born again freak. So he sees a Preist and figures he's forgiven. In NY the NYPD would have kicked the crap out of the bastard for 2 or 3 days and sent him to Rikers Island with a fresh tube of KY.
