I don't mean to lead us off-topic, but this I disagree with.

I frequently wear my dad's old button-down Army shirt, with his sewn-on name tag and rank insignia still attached, and also an old pair of his Army-issue pants. I also have several other pieces of military clothing from various Army/Navy surplus stores.

I wear these items not merely because I think they are comfortable, practical, durable, and stylish.... I also think it is a silent nod of respect and gratitude, both to him, and to military personnel in general.

Getting back to the topic at hand...

It saddens me that they are no longer going to produce the "civilian" version of the H1. It was actually a vehicle worth owning.

The H2 and H3 are absurd, pointless vehicles that are not even remotely capable of what the H1 was.

I like the H1. Not because of its looks, but because of the innovations. I like how its high ground clearance, and the overall build of it makes it the perfect trail rig. I have seen one on some trails an hour from my house. He had only gone 50 miles, and had 3/4 a tank of fuel left, but it refused to get stuck!!! He was going over serious stuff too!

It it was about $30,000, and got good fuel economy, I would buy one. But its just not practical in its current form.

It has served it's purpose. GM is not going to be capable of making a vehicle that commands 100K to too many people. IMO, it was there to make the Hummer brand popular. After that, it is hard for GM to sell 100K vehicles. But every clown knows about the Hummer so they can buy H3s starting at 30K and have something close to the H1.

You want all those features and good fuel economy too? You want fries with that? I would like to see 30 mpg out of my Excursion and have it pull 10000# daily but that aint happening. I have to pick which set of features I want.

That's exactly my point:

The H2 and H3 are NOT "close" to the H1. Not even remotely. They share a name, big tires, and poor fuel economy... but the similarities pretty much end right there.

But so what? Because of the H1 you know the Hummer name and brand. Most of us cannot afford a 100K vehicle any more than many people who play soldier by wearing the gear and all that can actually be a soldier. Many of us can afford a vehicle that starts at 30K which is about the cost of an average SUV.

Like I said, the H1 has done it's job. However, they cannot sell that many H1s any more since there are only so many people that can afford it. But, now that it is popular and there are many wannabees lining up to get one and they have the H2 and the H3 that the wannabees can afford, why keep building the H1?

I completely understand the logic behind the decision. It makes perfect business sense to phase it out, and I am not questioning that aspect of it.

It's just that the purist in me hates to see the original fade away, in favor of a lame, horribly inferior imitation. That's all.

Not if it has the 6.0L engine. Besides, I need an SUV because I take my dogs around in them. Not intersted in a truck at all. I bought the 7.3L version of the Excursion after looking around at many places and finally buying one 6 hrs away. The dealers would tell me that the 6.0 is readily advailable but the 7.3 is scarce because owners would drive them into the ground before they sell. Makes me wonder why the 6.0 is so advailable if it was as good. Besides, I ahve heard many diesel techs at Ford say they love the 6.0 because it keeps them busy.

I think the MXT comes with the DT series motors which I see in all the tow trucks and so forth. Either way it's a moot point since your're not looking for another truck.

How about a Sprinter? That should have plenty of room for the dogs.

IF it will tow my toy hauler, which is about 8000 pounds I would seriously consider it.

used military hmmv's are pretty pricey even without an engine in them.. i was lookin online once to find a bargin.. 21k from one that had seen action in desert storm.. without an engine
