Optimum Online...
Anyone here having any trouble with it the past couple weeks... there appears to be a lot of folks experiencing slower speeds and lost signals... thought I'd ask here...

About two weeks ago the did a "software upgrade" to all the modems. It seems that the modems didn't like this one bit and many of them bit the dust. Mine was one of them.
They came out the next day and replaced the modem.......it then worked fine. It's a rather interesting system. The modem must be replaced and they must identify the new modem to the system online. Just plugging in a new modem won't cut it. I'm fairly pleased with the system. In the last 15 months, it went down twice for a few minutes. The modem failure was the first significant outage. The reliability, as compared to Verizon's DSL (outage at least once per week) is significantly better. The speeds are far greater than the computer can use. |

I have periods of sluggishness with my internet connection at work (DSL) and sometimes at home (Cox Cable). What type of connection are you guys using?

OK here in Northern NJ, but about 3 weeks ago, our signal suddenly wasn't strong enough for the cable modem, but fine for the TV.
Granted, the PO of our house split the cable coming into the house so every bedroom had cable, but it had been fine. Modem appeared to be OK, since we swapped out with a neighbors to test. So, we called them in, even if there was a chance we had to pay. The cable guy ended up running new cable from the contact point to the house, split to 1)my office and 2)the rest of the house as opposed to split all around the house and my office being a branch of that mess. He also replaced the old little white modem with a new one. Big and black, just how I like my modems. Since I helped him run the cable, he didn't charge us, though for what he did, he could have easily.
