It was a short time ago, I was walking along a gravel road and heard a soft whump whump whump that sounded as if a series of explosions was taking place a loooooong ways in the distance. Seconds later the sound continued as a raven past about 20’ over my head.

I didn't fully appreciate the value of quiet until I moved to Floyd County, Virginia several years ago. On a still day, I could stand in my front yard and hear a creek that was a pretty good distance away. I had been living there for a few months before it really occurred to me just how nice it was to live in a quiet place. I love where I live now, but it doesn't have that Floyd County quiet.
