Carleton's liquid lunch.....
With all the chatter about Manhattans I cannot do better than to share images of the closest thing to heaven {barring Mistress Heather's emphasis on discipline} ever invented by man{or woman}.

Wow, you guys are old on this forum...that's why I like it as I tend to get some good advice here. No offense to the people in the pics, I'm only 24 so anybody over 30 is old.
By the way, what kind of bars do you go where you cannot find a soul? Where the heck are the people?

Well,here we are.
The BEST restaurant on the North Shore, owned and operated by my friend Lou Selvaggio, everything is fresh, they have NO FREEZER!!!!! http://www.robkescountryinn.com/ I will only add that they DO NOT accept credit cards, and only checks from frequent patrons so bring cash. One of the best bargains on the Gold Coast, most entrees are 10-15 dollars.

Behind the bar is the grille, where such things are done to chicken, fish, sausages and vegetables as would make your mouth water. When the hell are you going to come up here?

Oh man, the legacy of growing up Mormon. I've never had a Manhattan. I've been known to appreciate a mixed drink now and then but not much lately. Beer or rum these days.
But I'm game. What should I specify in ordering a first rate Manhattan?

Your challenge, laddy buck: progress in fitness throughout your life so that you can best men in their 20s when you're 50. Best them in things like bicycle races, swimming, martial arts even. In wits, well of course. Some oldsters can run pretty fast too. Check this out: Tim McMullen, 48 of Churchville, finished 7th in an elite field of thirteen masters men's competitors. McMullen ran a seasonal best 4:32.32. Former Canadian Olympian, Graeme Fell of British Columbia, won the race in 4:18.43. Carolyn Smith-Hanna, 50, of the Genesee Valley Harriers bettered her existing World and American 50-54 age-group record for the One Mile Run at the Pontiac/USA Track & Field Indoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday morning at Atlanta's Georgia Dome. Competing in a special Masters Mile for women, Smith-Hanna finished third in a time of 5:22.92 which bettered her previous World and American mark of 5:27.30 set on January 20 at the Hartshorne Masters Mile @ at Cornell University's Barton Hall. New Jersey's Madeline Noe, who holds the existing World age 40-49 record for women, won the race in 5:10.24 If you think a 5:22 mile is slow, you ought to try to run one. For a 50 year old woman, that's fast. I couldn't run that fast now, I'm certain. And that guy Graeme Fell, I found on another site that he ran 4:13 when he was 43. So why does this matter? There are few things quite as delicious as surprising a young dude who thinks he's pretty hot stuff. Back in '96, I had some free time, needed some cash, so I got a job driving a pedi-cab on the SF waterfront. I'd driven automobile cab for years and like riding bikes so I couldn't resist trying it. I'd heard the money wasn't bad and I did have days over $150 and averaged close to $100. Holy thigh muscles Batman, what a workout. These rigs had 6 gears, 1st was a tad lower than most mt. bikes' lowest gear. We had a route that went through China Town and it had some hills that were right on the boundry of what you could climb hauling two passengers. I only did it for a few months, and right towards the end, me and two buddies did a ride over the hill behind the U. Cal and down to a park with a swimming lake. One guy was a personal trainer, age 25 and the other guy was a martial arts buff, 21, looked pretty fit but was totally full of himself, so it was hard to say if his stories about himself were true. I was 44. It wasn't really fair cuz neither of them rode bikes that much but were more into weights, whereas I'd just had the bicycle boot camp of a lifetime. I smoked both those guys! Holy tomole I had fun. The looks on the personal trainer guy's face when we'd have to wait for him on the hills. Jeez he could be full of himself, but likeable. The martial arts guy and I came out on the flat together and raced to the lake. Like I said, it wasn't fair.So am I just trying to run out some BS internet boasting? No. I've been slipping lately, I'm not in the kind of shape I need to be to stave off an unremarkable end. Therefore, brash young whippersnapper, I challenge both of us: get in shape as if 10 or 20 of us from the Forum here were going to meet for a decathlon of sorts in 5 years, with hefty cash prises and major props to overall and age group winners. And if you take this challenge, whether it ever happens or not, one day you might smoke the bejusus out of some pround young fools and watch 'em gape.
