Seing as how my youth closely parallels yours, coupled with all the years I worked in the desert (and will be again soon) I expect I'll be following in your footsteps in the next couple years.

In my youth my "suntan lotion" was sweat and grease. In all honesty, some of that grease was probably like spf100 though. Nowadays I slather on some heavy duty sun block to my arm and back of my neck whenever I'm working in the desert or spending the entire day at a shooting match. Sure beats being toasted to a deep red for the evening and my neck doesn't itch at the end of the day. Prior to my sunblock days, at the end of the day the back of my neck was itchy all over. No bumps, lumps or humps just itched like the dickens.

Since your oddessy started with an itch, you can bet I'll be paying close attention to my often over exposed areas. Any other unusual symptoms you may have experienced and care to share? Some of us will (all of us should) learn a little something for your experience.

The itchiness was pretty persistent, but not overly distracting. I never saw the spot, but Mrs B described it as unusual. I've always had freckles so "unusual" is relative. It was a slightly different color and and texture, but not remarkably so. the doc says the combination of itchiness and unusual appearnce warranted a biopsy--especially the itchiness as she knows me well enough that I rarely have any complaints about pain and such.

I saw the little blob of flesh she cut away. The color was a bit more blood-volored than my typical freckles and certainly considerably larger. I saw nothing unusual in the endodermous, but then, I can say with great releif taht I haven't much experience with deeper tissues.

Good luck with your excorcism...er, I mean existencising...uh...excremism....ummm....procedure!

Seriously... Good luck with the excision (or punch incision?)

See now, when I forget to slather the goop on my neck and cook it good that is when it will begin to itch. It will be a persistent itch, which is to the point of distracting. That will last a couple three days then start to ease. No freckles back there, no bumps or anything, just a unbelievable itch.

Some would describe me as fair due to the blue eyes and light brown hair. But, we come from Greece (2 generations ago) on my father's side. Sun just turns me a deep brown, which used to cause me a little grief in my doodlebugging days in So.LA depending on which bar I went into. Sunburn consists of one evening of mild redness, which turns brown by morning. However, nowadays I actually take steps to not get cooked.
