Our IT guy calls IE a virus. It is the software that every hacker wants to get into and it has many vulnerabilities. Firefox is musch better. IE is actually copying it now.

i've been on the dark side for ever by force, i had to have XP for certain programs.. but now with the advent of bootcamp i can be free.. yay.. im going to go to the apple store and buy my laptop instead of shipping it, plus i get a free data transfer from my old laptop to my new one (just 6 gigs of music and a gig of photos is all i need to move)

Microsoft office for Mac is a bit pricey, but I've had no problems with it, and it has the benefit of being very "familiar looking" to those who are used to Microsoft Office on PC.

Appleworks seems to work OK as well, although I've used it very little...

I hear good things about OpenOffice, but I've never tried it. But hey, since it's free, how can you go wrong by trying it?...

Maybe I'll give it a spin.

Regarding Microsoft office,

Many of the programs on Office, like Word, were originally made for the mac, and then were converted over to the PC.

Regarding software that is made for Windows,

If you buy a new mac with the intel chip, it will run any Windows program.

It would be better to say they CAN run windows programs.

Windows nust be bought and installed seperate. Bootcamp only provides the path, you have to buy/do the rest.

yea... tell you what though, programs that i have and have installed on a dual core pc get really fuzzy when it kicks the second core in for faster processing..

The instructions to install openoffice scare me a little - its translated from french and talks about installing an x11 emulator (????)

If anyone has done this recently, I'd like to know how it went.

Firefox = excellent browser, beats IE hands down. The extensions that are available boggle the mind and make surfing infinitly easier. Then there's that whole much more secure thing...

Openoffice = great open source office suit. I havn't found anything that I can do in MSoffice that I can't do in Open, yet. Added plus that it's open source.

What is bootcamp? Multiple OS boot manager????

if so, can one run Linux on a Mac?

Ray, Mrs. Peragro installed OpenOffice on our laptop. There was no violent cursing or hurled objects when she did it and it works great so I assume that the install ain't so bad.

If you want send a PM and I'll ask her to tell you how things went when she gets up in the morning.

At this time, only Windows XP SP2 can be installed with it. The Parallels software can run anything that can run on a x86 box.
