All I can say is that you will be bored with just being productive and not having to put up with weekyl service pack installs, crashes, app failures, viruses, worms, and so on.

Mac is the choice for musicians for all of the above reasons. I haven't bought one yet, but I plan on joining the "Dark Side" soon.

And now that Mac supports Windows, there is no good reason to not own a Mac...

I'm getting my kid a Macbook for college. I will be getting a Mac Mini soon. Now that IE is crashing every time I come to this site, all the more reason to say goodbye to windoze!

Cool. I just downloaded firefox and running it now, alls well.

My only worry about the macbook is the glossy screen and the reflections on it. But I read enough info amd reviews to learn that its really not a problem. It also supposedly performs better in bright light than a matte screen.

Glossy screen

I have a Toshiba laptop with a shiney screen. I thought it might have a lot of glare and reflections, too. It hasn't been a problem and the image is bright and very clear.

Now that I've said that, I too, will being buying a Mac the next time around. My Microsoft stock has been as disappointing as their operating system seems to be.

Do not waste your money by having apple install the ram/HD. Use that $100 and get your own 1GB module for 1.5GB. Put that other $50 twards an external USB hard drive. I've seen (and have) 300GB external drives at CompUSA for $160 out the door.

My Mac Mini (G4) has 1GB ram and 990GB of hard drive space. 80GB stock internal, 3x 300GB external, 60GB pocket drive (Plus 1GB and 128mb USB keychains.) Plus a really nice 21" Dell flat CRT I got for $15. It's too slow for me. I'm on the lookout for a good deal on a used dual CPU G5.

2 questions:

- Is DVD+RW (superdrive) necessary for a student?

- Which is better, iWork, AppleWorks, or Microsoft Office for Mac?

1: Unless you make movies, no. That's why I use external harddrives. They are still the best $/MB.

2: I prefer Open Office but Appleworks is OK. Mico Office is a complete ripoff for what they charge for it.

The DVD-RW is good if you archive a lot of data or music, video and or art projects. If you're just cranking out papers it's not necessary....unless you're a procrastinator and decide to copy DVD's all day.
