Anyone hear of DR. MICROMETER tools?
They seem to offer cheap torque wrench's and I may have a chance to score one for very cheap. Are they worth it or should I just spend the extra for a Chraftsman?

Don't know about that specific brand. However, if you're not a professional mechanic, the lower cost torque wrenches will do a perfectly acceptable job. If they have an error of 5%, it's very unlikely that such an error will cause any issues with any fastener on the vehicle.
Most folks don't even bother with a torque wrench for most jobs and the error is typically 30% or so.........the vehicle generally doesn't care. Some jobs demand it........such as head bolts, wheel lug nuts, and valve covers.........but that's about it. |

How does $13+ $10 in shipping sound?
1/2 drive good to 100ft pounds? Just looking for something to use on the wheels mostly. I have access to nicely calibrated Snap On's for internal engine work.

1/2 drive is usually good to 120 ft.-lbs. or so. It will do fine. Might be dicey on the low torques........say 11 ft.-lbs. on a valve cover......you'd need to check it down at that level....... |

90% of what it would be used for would be 80ftish for wheel bolts. I have the use of a 3/8 drive Snap On for the light stuff.
Well the auction ends in a few hours lets see if I get a deal...

Last Wednesday, I did need to use it in reverse to torque a fastener (an inside fastener that is facing the opposite direction). I had the couplings to engage the fastener but realized that the wrench will only provide a click in one direction. |
