The city where we live is moving way up-market...it started out in the 60's as little summer cottages, went toward year-round normal subdivision homes in the 70's, and the new construction is of the McMansion variety, some upwards of $1 million, which is astronomical for this area. Along with the fancy-schmancy people comes a changing of the guard at the community association and city gov't. I hadn't even thought about the political speech issue, never even dawned on me. I figure most of the rules are the price one pays to keep the riff-raff out and keep people from letting their homes fall apart.

Well, keeping the riff-raff out is why I live in a planned community.

Still, the 1st Am trumps HOA rules.

I bet that the council rules would not stand up to judicial scrutiny and would not survive a 1st Am. challenge.

HOAs serve a worthwhile purpose but it all depends on the people who are voted in. Its usually the gung-ho types with too much time on their hands, who want to decide what kind of screen door you can have, or what color your mailbox is allowed to be.

Good luck with your Saab

The good news with the non-turbo's is that the gearbox and drive shafts have had a much easier life and should last a long time.

If it's a nice-looking car I'm sure you'll love it.
I'm on my 2nd classic 900, the first was non-turbo and lovely to drive, but I decided to get a turbo version for a bit (actually a lot) more speed, and although it can be a lot of fun at times I find I can't enjoy a relaxing drive in it. So I bought an 1985 SL280 to relax in instead

They last

I sold mine at 225000 miles and it purred like a kitten. The gearbox was fine but I did have issues with the clutch master/slave cylinder once that cost me a bunch.

There is a good saab forum out there on Saabnet. You'll find some very knowledgeable people who will be happy to slate you Mercedes Benz like the guys here are slating your Saab

Alabbasi, great looking car. The one I bought is the same color. Mine has cloth seats, wish it had the Bridge of Weir leather, but the cloth seems to at least hold up well. We're waiting for more pic's of rusty English cars from you too.

The guy must have sold the VW convertible already, he never answered my email pertaining to the craigslist ad. God help me, there was a VW Thing on craigslist tonight, less than 5 minutes from my house. I sent him a message just a few minutes ago.

i also liked my 99s very much. just a little too much lucas electrical stuff.

when they came out with the too buicklike 9000 i started losing interest.

My son, an aviation aficionado, is also a Saab aficionado--old Saabs, that is.

He gets mad at the new Saab commercials trying to link up the GM Saabs to the old Saabs developed and built by plane engineers.

He wants me to file a class action lawsuit to keep GM from trying to fool the public into thinking that the new Saabs are in any way connected to the old Saabs.

Ah, a chip of the old block!
