I'm aware of that, but it doesn't make up for their total collpase in the playoffs a couple years ago.

When things start to go wrong in the playoffs, this is no longer a team that has the confidence of winning every time.

It is sooo easy to be a Yankees fan. Write another check George! We need some more talent.

But I still say you get a fairly good player and put him pinstripes and all of a sudden he is a great player. I think it is the Yankees attitude. I can't say New York attitude because then it would include the Mets.

I am a long time Braves fan. It has killed me over the years to see them do so good in the regular season and then choke when it came to the big games. Their only series win in Atlanta was against the Indians.

A quick story:

I was living in Winter Park Florida at that time. In the winter after that series on one evening I was standing in line at Blockbuster waiting to rent my video. I had on a Braves sweatshirt. In front of me on line was a tall thin guy with glasses. He turned around and I said to him "has anyone ever told you that you look like a pitcher for the Indians by the name of Orel Hershiser?" His response was "that's me". We spoke for a few minutes and he was a real gentleman. He was renting a house in Winter Park while his house at a private golfing community was being completed.

Me too. I went and suffered through the ATL world series games with the twins in '91. When I lived in Augusta during the Murphy, Hubbard, Ramirez, Perry, Horner years, we could get tickets for games at the 'old' stadium for $2. We used to go to Boca (coincidence) when they were training in West Palm Beach and go check that out too. These youthful dalliances created a painful fan experience

To the extent the most successful sports franchise ever has to "make up" for anything, I would have to agree that the recent sweep at Fenway is insufficient. Instead, the Yanks will have to fall back on the 1978 season when they overcame the Sox's 14-game lead in September and then won a one-game playoff when Bucky Dent his a pop fly over the Green Monster. OMG, that was sweet. Or maybe the Yanks can fall back on their 26 World Championships between 1923 and 2000.

Yankees need to win 3 more games to clinch the post season.

Twins will likely top Detroit the way things are going. Baseball is a wonderful statistical study. Too bad the game is so boring. Most of the time you can walk half way around the Metrodome to get to the bathroom and return without having to ask "what did I miss?"

I'm pretty sure my brother-in-law has the 2006 ball along with a lot of other prized ones. He has a whole big case full of them. Had a nice tour of Yankee stadium facilities back in '96 I think, on the day after thanksgiving. Sister invited whole family for thanksgiving dinner and we went. (heck, it's only, what, 500 miles or so?). Neat operation. They do things very well. Sorta like the Penske racing operatin, I would imagine.
