For example at places like Mens Warehouse you can score some good deals on suits. $500-$1k for a good name and a good suit.

There are some amazing clothing stores in Westport and Greenwich, one comes to mind in particular named Micheals. I know someone who used to shop at said store, you can spend $10k in one shot. Sport jackets, $1k, Zenga shirts $200+.

In such areas $100 jeans are "thrifty"

I spent $12 on a tanning session, $14 dollars to cut my hair and $80 dollars on a massage. I feel like a million bucks though.

The fit and comfort of a well-tailored pair of jeans makes a HUGE difference.

I buy $5 thrift-store/eBay t-shirts all the time... I don't spend much on shoes either. I'm wearing a $35 pair of Converse sneakers right now...

But I'll spend $150 on a very nice pair of jeans without any remorse. Totally worth it.

Mike

So you won't spend extra money on your feet? The two things that you use to walk around on and keep everything lined up right? Sheesh.

Someone bought me expensive jeans once and I didn't really notice a difference between them and my 30 dollar jeans. Sure they look nicer but jeans are jeans. Maybe im just not picky or my body's just different. I'll spend good money on shoes though, if they are comfortable enough. 80-120 bucks is pretty cheap to me for what, 6 months of comfort.

And oddly enough when I had to get a suit for a wedding, I was looking at the 300 dollar ones and they just didn't look right or feel right. I went to a department store and found one for 100 bucks that looked and felt better than the other ones. Thanks lil kid, you make one hell of a suit for the money

I am flat-footed. Expensive shoes that have good arch support (and all that other fancy foot-pampering technology) actually hurt my feet.

I'm more comfortable in the cheap sneakers.

Fortunately, I also prefer the look of them. Expensive athletic-style shoes with all the colors and stripes and logos and all that crap on them just don't do it for me. Too gaudy and over-done. I prefer more tasteful, simply-styled shoes.

I must admit that I have spent money on high-$$ hiking shoes, and some other nice-looking shoes and boots from time to time.

But I usually prefer the less-expensive footwear, for both comfort and style reasons.

Maybe you should look for a line of work where pissing people off is considered a positive attribute. You are after all, quite good at pissing people off. I wish you the best success in your endeavors.

I have been wearing Bean Jeans for a few years now. They have a few different styles depending upon your build/ weight. My favorite feature is that you can get them lined with flannel or a polartec type of lining. Being a Florida boy, it is one way of coping with Long Island winters.

Wow... $100 for jeans. I guess I'd consider trying a pair if my budget weren't so limited. The most I have spent is $20 on Gap and/or Levi's on clearance. Both feel fine to me, but more power to you guys who can budget the hi-$ stuff. I have to budget for good running shoes -- 26.2 miles in WalMart specials isn't going to cut it. Otherwise I cheap-out on most clothing.

I need a decent winter jacket for my trip to Europe. I have a great military Goretex, two military flight jackets (leather and nylon), and a military parka, but I don't want to advertise the fact that I work for Uncle Sugar while I'm across the pond. So I started pricing the nicer (Columbia, North Face, etc...) jackets and just about fainted. I'll be checking Goodwill and the Salvation Army hoping I can round up a second-hand one before my trip!

Feet I can relate to;
I'll spend 100. + on sandals (fl. weather) or sneakers or any shoes;

but I can live with CalvinKleins from Marshalls for 25. each/ last 2 yrs easy.
My theory on clothes is if you are in shape you could wear anything and it feels & looks OK. You don't have to by specially cut clothes to have them fit.

BUt then again I am straight.

Depends upon your definition of "fits"...

...And also whether or not you are content with "it looks OK"...

You could probably find seat covers from an Oldsmobile or a Toyota that would "fit" your Mercedes seats, technically speaking... But that doesn't mean they would look good.

I can find $24 Levi's that will "fit" me just fine... and they'll "look OK"...

But I don't want them to merely "fit" and "look OK". The $100 jeans fit me BETTER... the way I WANT them to.

It's worth it to me. And since it's my money I'm spending, then mine is the opinion that matters.

Mike
