It was a sad day indeed when Indian Larry passed, and I'll never forget during one of the biker build off shows when someone asked him what time it was. He said that he didn't pay attention to time. The man was a legend. Whoa, I'm out of the loop. I usually read about Billy Lane in The Horse magazine, what did he do? |

The committe kind of gave me freedom when I created the rides. It was kind of tough. There are soo many really good biking roads but they kind of lead to nowhere. (a good thing when you are joy-riding, not when leading a group to a destination)
I will probably do it one more year then hang it up. It is a great way to meet people and show them the area. A great thing about the area....everything is pretty much dirt cheap. The other builder I enjoy watching from an innovation standpoint is Matt Hotch. That bike with air forks and air shocks that squats all the way to the pavement was pretty cool

Yes, all '79 RD400's are Daytonas. Last year aircooled 2 stroke available in the US.

This thread has been quiet for a while, so yesterday I bought a 1995 BMWR1100R after 30 years of abstinence. So who is next?

I'm extremely happy with my '85 K100. It's amazingly reliable.
Since it's the 4 cylinder, the left side vibrates just enough that I go through an H3 55W bulb for my "Look at me, see me, I'm over here, Don't @#% 'n hit me!" left side light every 4000 miles or so. Mine are little, but powerful, PIAA lights. They have been a lifesaver many times from the little old ladies in Buicks. People who normally would pull out into the road simply do not when these puppies light my way, even in the daytime. At night I use them sparingly, like approaching intersections, because they can be blinding. I've got the main headlight and these two down at engine level, either side. They're borderline more worth the investment than a good helmet for the safety factor I've seen put to use. If it's been 30 years without a bike, I can tell you it's 20x more dangerous out there than it used to be even 10 years ago. People drive much more aggressively, on the cell phones, not paying attention, shaving, make-up, eating, drifting into lanes, etc. It's absolutely unbelieveable. Ride as if you're invisible. Always know what's around you in all directions. Look at other drivers heads to see if they see you and then don't trust it. Always look for that place to put you and the machine if something happens. Ride often. The more you are one with the bike, the safer you'll be. Anyone tailgating you, wave them to back off nicely, they usually do. If they don't, let the jerk pass and make it easy for him to do so. Your life's worth much more. Get a heated vest. It won't roast you, but is just enough to take the chill off and make riding in the cold very pleasant. There's nothing quite like the fear of possible imminent death to keep you sharp. I love to ride.
