The thread says highest maintained speed.....we just assumed it meant in a car. Anyone own or fly military aircraft with an afterburner?

how much power is in euro spec lights?

yeah, I kinda ment in a car, but whatever... We had a speaker come in about the Vietnam war, telling us that he was doing 1200 MPH in a F4? He said after that, everything else seamed like walking pace.

I noticed that also, through town at 35-45 posted speed limit, I thought it'd be faster to get out and walk...

I'll be digging up the light specs on my factory high beams

Quite a few years ago, I had a red 79 Camaro. Yeah, I know... it was a squeaky, rattling, trailer-park-lurking GM product. But it was my first car, and it was actually in excellent condition, and it was FAST!!!

Anyway, my father and I had built an impressive 383 small-block for the car, and it would easily maintain 140mph on a long, flat stretch of highway.

However, the aerodynamics of the car were NOT designed for such speeds, so as I recall it was pretty "floaty"... If I had welded some 18" wings on the doors to add just a bit more lift, the thing probably would have flown! Hahaha...

I also had a friend who had a black 72 Corvette with a juiced 427 in it... I did over 150 in that car a couple of times. I was quite envious of it.

I'm not a NASCAR fan at all... but I got to drive the #6 car on the Talladega track last year, and maintained ~170mph for a few laps. It was quite fun, but intimidating too.

Now that is cool.

Btw, AMC stands for All Mistakes Combined.

When I was 16, I was late returning my dads 1957 Willys CJ-5 Jeep. I hit 55mph, after I held the pedal to the floor for a mile. When I got home, the poor motor had a sticky valve that was stuck open, my dad knew what was going on. He told me that if I wanted to kill myself there were less painfull ways, and walked away.

Thanks for the wisdom, pop.

My mom told my dad that if he buys one more lawnmower, tractor, or Jeep that he will have to start sleeping at my house. You can take someone off the farm, but you can't take the farm out of someone.

One of the reasons I drive diesels. I love going fast and am not afraid to do so.

In the SDL 70 is a super slow cruise, 80-90 is what I like to average on any trip. I have done extended 105-110 crusing in a number of trips and she does fine.

If I had something fast like an SL600 I'd probably be spending a lot of time at 150 and in jail!

I remember in one underground DVD I got, someone managed to get from North Hampton I think to Manhattan in about 25 minutes. It was at 2am, in a Ferrari 360. Speeds never went below 180, most of the time about 190ish flat out!

In my Subaru, I had that thing at about 110 once, and I could have gone faster but didn't have enough straight road ahead of me. All I really need now is something that will go faster
I have sustained 90+ for about an hour in my CD. 85-90 is its real comfortable place, 95 isn't much of a push. 100 is as fast as it goes though.

I've sustained 110 in a Dodge Ram 2500 CTD for about 30 seconds, other than that I normally only take my alotted 5mph extra over the speed limit.

There's a reason for that -
The point of fog lights being yellow is that it cuts through the fog better while normal "temperature" lights tend to just reflect back off of the fog. So having both on at the same time is actually not optimal because you're cutting down on the efficiency of the actual fog light by reflecting off of the fog with the high beams. This goes for low-beams as well.

Car manufacturers are not as dumb as you think

you havent lived til you have gone 120 indicated in a 59 ferrari at night on 30 year old bias ply 600 x 16 dunlops.

just pick a stretch of road where there are no houses, cross roads, fences or large trees near the road...only corn.

i only know of one place like that with in easy driving distance from my house and it is only about a half mile long so you need some serious acclelerating ability to reach any velocity there.

it gets the blood circulating.

I once did a sustained 170 km/h (about 106 mph) for 145 kms (about 90 miles) in a 1984 Honda Civic WagoVan, which is a Civic tall wagon they used to make. 1.5 litre, carbureted four cylinder engine pushing about 70 hp, and a car load of 18 year olds coming home in the middle of the night from a long road trip. I drove the last leg of the trip and just wanted to get home.

I got the SD up to 105 but ran out of road. Can never seem to get enough room to really open it up. Damn left lane drivers!
Maybe I should take a trip to Miami.

At around 90mph or so it just settles down and hums along nicely. I just love it!

I had a GSXR1100 at an indicated 160mph for about 10 min. once. Very uncomfortable. A lot of pressure on the helmet. It was early morning out in the country, open fields and no wind. When I coasted down to 100 it felt as if I could get off and walk. I had the CE at an idicated 140 for about 5 min. Quite comfortable, but at this point in my life I worry too much about mechanical failures to enjoy it.
