Ladies and gentlemen, let me postulate.

Apart from the self serving nature of this event..including the greed of paraphernalia merchants......it is really a non event, so why all the hoopla?

The only character we all hear about is Father Christmas, Old Nick etc.

Okay...before you all scream blasphemy...let me explain.

If, as many believe, Jesus died for our sins and a proprititory sacrifice for mankind, is not the day of his death more important than his birth.....after all the Bible says '' A name is better than good oil, and the day of death, than the day of one’s being born."..a long time before he was born.....so assuming this is the correct biblical view, then celebrating his impending death would prove more accurate being as at this time he had accomplished his mission on earth.

If however, you belief that Jesus was just another minor prophet, the above still applies.
This would include Jewish and Muslim faiths.

Also...the birthdays recorded in the Bible, with out exception, where days of murderous intent.
So in this case, would 'Christmas Bashers' be ultimately wasting their breath, calling for it's removal?

Do you believe that Jesus had a prehuman existence of possible billions of years ?
If so, the birth was just a miracle, not an event like the birth of earthly kings.....and we don't celebrate his other miracles like the wine, bread and the fishes...or indeed his raising of the dead..ie: Lazarus, for one.

If you do not believe in his prehuman existence, then again Christmas is just another birth....and very unspectacular.

If you are a scholar of history, you will know that December 25 is not the day he was born anyway, another reason Christmas is a non event.

So, having thrown the cat among the birds ....how say you ?
