You people are great. I was going to agree and say that "I hate everybody too", but I need to exclude the fantastic members of the ms community.

Around here, 2 out of 3 people keep their high beams on at ALL times. EVERYBODY drives an SUV, to this day. Average traveling distance between two cars in lightly populated areas at 45 mph is approximately six feet.

5 out of 6 Massachusetts drivers never use their signals. Approximately 1/3 of NH drivers do not, either. 1 out of 20 drivers, in a decently populated area will peel rubber and accelerate to 60 mph in a 35 mph zone. Horns blare once every 10 minutes, if close by a "^&*) you *()(head" can be overheard.

Rarely, about twice a year, somebody tries to shove you over the shoulder, and lock their brakes up on you if they get ahead of you.

I can't wait to get finished with school and apply somewhere else. I'm leaving my homeland (New England) and I swear I'll never look back.

I hate rubber neckers that back up traffic for 10 miles just to look at an accident on the other side of the highway. They suck.

Topless jet washing? Where can I buy tickets to such an advent?

2. you are also mad at yourself for telling her to forget about it. but you didnt have to say that, so dont hold that against her.
3. for sure dont put anything in her tank. that is clearly wrong and you would be doing it on purpose. at least what she did was an accident. (except possibly the tears)

here is my suggestion.
1. first tell her in person or in a note that you have thought about it and you need for her to be responsible and pay for the repair. tell her right away. and tell her you will get an estimate asap and get back with her.
2. get the estimate. present it to her. if you want to feel generous you might decide to give her a break by accepting used parts for the repair rather than new or something similar.
3. if she says she is not going to take the responsibility, dont yell at her or threaten her (again you will be wrong and could end up in jail) but tell her you will take her to small claims court. this is a pretty simple process and here it costs maybe $40 to file.

but dont stew about it anymore. either meet it head on as noted above or let it go completely and know that you are a better person than her.

good luck in whatever you decide to do.

thanks for the advice Tom, that's what I had planned actually. the putting stuff in oil phrase was more like an exaggerated/ humourously meant sentence to stay within the feel of the topic
I'll just let the insurance deal with it, after having spoken to her. basically I can't be bothered fixing it myself since the car needs an engine too and is thus now pretty much total loss...
